Nvidia has perhaps inadvertently revealed that the next Nexus tablet will be made by HTC. As part of a document relating to their patent lawsuit against Samsung and Qualcomm, Nvidia has mentioned that the HTC Nexus 9 will launch in the third quarter of this year, powered by a Tegra K1 SoC.

If Nvidia is correct about the Nexus 9's third-quarter launch date, one would expect it before the end of September. However, with HTC hosting a "double exposure" event on October 8th, it might still be a month or so before we see the tablet for the first time, assuming the event is used to launch the Google-backed tablet.

Previous rumors have indicated that the Nexus 9 will feature an 8.9-inch display, possibly with a resolution of 2560 x 1600, as well as an 8-megapixel rear camera. It could also be the first device to pack the 64-bit variant of Nvidia's Tegra K1 SoC, which includes two custom-made Denver CPU cores alongside their mobile Kepler GPU.

The Nexus 9 will most likely launch with Android L on board, although as Google hasn't as yet finalized the upcoming version of their mobile OS, its release will hinge on when Google Android L is ready.

The release of the Nexus 9 will be the first Nexus release of the year, following on from last October's Nexus 5 and the mid-2013 launch of the second-generation Nexus 7. Hopefully it won't be too long before it's seen in the flesh.

Is it just me but I would love a windows tablet to run This.... maybe an x86 so I can play some real games on the Go.

This move could be great or the final nail in HTC s coffin.

I hope not... we need HTC. they're the only Android maker that uses Apple quality materials. Plus, their UI Sense is so much nicer than Samsung's Touchwiz it makes it look like it's a generation later. A Nexus tablet wouldn't have Sense, but I'll bet it'll have the metal case with awesome front speakers.
