Oppo Find N5 arrives next week: thinnest foldable so far with an almost invisible crease

Something to look forward to: Foldables have seen their popularity steadily increase since the original Samsung Galaxy Fold launched in 2019. Another device from the category arrives next week, and this one sounds like it's worth paying attention to: the Oppo Find N5 is not only the thinnest foldable in the world, but it also has a near-invisible display crease.

One of the issues people often cite with foldables is their general size and clunkiness. The phones have been getting thinner in recent years, but Oppo's Find N5 takes this to extremes. Its 4.2mm thickness when open means the device is at the limits of how thin a phone can go while still allowing a USB-C charging port, according to the company.

For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is shown in the photo next to the Find N5, is almost double the thickness at 8.25mm, while the latest Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 is 5.6mm when unfolded. The slimmest foldable phone on the market today is Honor's Magic V3, which measures 4.35mm thick.

In case you're wondering, a USB-C port is 2.6mm high.

The other element that could make the Oppo Find N5 more attractive to those who usually shun foldables is the almost invisible crease. The visible center line in these devices still puts some people off, but it's very difficult to notice in Oppo's upcoming foldable – just look at the comparison with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

As for the main specs, the Find N5 is expected to come with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 120Hz refresh rate on the 2K 8-inch LTPO OLED main display, and a 5,600 mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging.

The Find N5 is also IPX9-rated, meaning it has been tested to endure high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. It's also IPX8-rated for submersion in water deeper than 1 meter for extended periods, and IP69-rated to indicate it is dust-tight, offering complete protection against any ingress of dust.

Oppo has now confirmed that the Find N5 is launching globally on February 20. No word yet on how much it will cost.

How durable is the foldable screen? One of my biggest concerns with foldables isn’t just the crease—it’s the screen’s lack of scratch resistance. One major drawback of foldables is that they require a softer screen material, as harder materials like Gorilla Glass aren’t flexible enough to support the folding mechanism. If they could develop a foldable screen without a visible crease and with scratch resistance comparable to Gorilla Glass Victus, I’d be far more interested.

It's great to see the foldable space continuing to innovate. I bought the Fold 6 to support the technology, and it's the best phone I've had by a long shot. It has a few drawbacks design-wise, but nothing close to ruining the overall experience that won't be fixed later on, with cleaner iterations.

Now we just have to wait for Apple to come out with "The Next Big Thing" foldable, and all those Android haters will quickly eat that crow they're currently throwing out about foldables. I can't wait.

Very interesting device. Sadly, not for USA.

The sister company OnePlus will most likely have one soon.
Heck, the original OnePlus One was nothing more than a knock off
(with a few less features) of the Oppo Find 7.
You can bet the BBK company will have a OnePlus version of the
Find N5 soon.

The oneplus fold does look nice, ill give you that.
With that said, personally I think im done with oneplus after owning oneplus 3, 7T pro and now 12R.

Both the 7T pro and 12r has had such bad bugs that just ruins the experience.

7t pro lost data connection aftet android update, no fix was ever released, only hope was to downgrade to older android version. Did that, lost some data. Annoyoing.

12r has issues where half the times I open it, the homescreen is froozen. Tried everything, many other users have same issue, no respons from oneplus, no fix.

I had enough.

I gave up on them after the 6T. Had the OnePlus One, 3, 5 & 6.
They got "too expensive" considering how low their trade in value was.

Poor old Scamsung, looking more pathetic everyday and they couldn't even copy this and pull it off properly. Korea is left eating China's dust.

Does the crease *stay* that almost invisible? One of my biggest aversions to getting one of these foldables is that the crease always gets worse and worse as it gets used. I keep my phones for 2+ years, and I don't want to see a big white line down the middle of the screen after 6 months or a year.

I love the look of this. It's great to see tech boundaries being pushed and innovation coming to the market. Within a couple of generations the crease will be fully invisible I reckon.
