Origin Game Time lets you play 'Titanfall' for free this weekend

...
Seriously - enjoy the game for what it offers - a fast paced, unique way to fight over a variety of maps, different battle modes and many, many different configurations for both pilots and Titans. If you're going to criticize the game then fine, come up with something more tangible than what amounts to a "it's not exactly the way I want it and/or it's not like game X" whine.

Whoa, read again where it all started. No one ever called it "bad", not even Steve; the word I agreed with was "underwhelming". I wouldn't dare "overrated" but definitely it disappointed me and my friends -I'm not a huge FPS fan, but I'm decently good. I have more than double the hours playing strategy games than shooters and I like some tactic -that's why I liked Crysis 2: energy management, approach tactics, how to sort out numeric disadvantage and kick ***. And BF is fine when you can have some coordination.

Two hard facts: when the BETA was launched I didn't have much time to play and I tried to make it count, that's why I didn't play more and I decided it didn't convince me enough to buy it (there the disappointment). The second one is that everything is a marketing move always, if they're letting you play for free Titanfall instead of Battlefield 4 it gets me to think there's a weak point commercially speaking with Titanfall (let it be sales, active users or anything else compared to any other title).

And since you can't understand someone not liking what you like -I've even been top player twice in Titanfall and that didn't satisfy me-, you're by definition a fanboy that can't be argued with. You're implying you're better in some ways to other FPS players calling one or other adjective or implying what we like or how we play, great for you. I invite you to read the 3rd paragraph of my second comment and learn a thing of two about different perspectives and tolerance. If you like it and enjoy it, good for you, that's a game that matched your likes and expectations; not mine and not my style -not being a gamer with FPS shooter as his main genre.

Because I like the game hardly qualifies me as a fanboy. And I've listened to several negative comments about the game that I agree with - team continuity and coordination being one of them. I just disagree with your complaints.

First of all, you continue to compare it to Crysis 2. IT'S A DIFFERENT GAME. I'm a strategy player too and I don't compare Civilization to Starcraft. I don't compare Far Cry to Fallout. There's no point because they are completely different games with different mechanics, interfaces and goals. My favorite FPS of all time is Unreal Tournament 2003. Loved it because of the futuristic weapons and vehicles. Titanfall doesn't have any of that, it's a quasi-modern day military shooter. Fine - I enjoy what Titanfall offers and don't spend my time comparing it to UT2003.

Then you state that the bulk of your playing time came from beta. Beta is not today's game. There have been a number of changes made since then including balancing, match-making, private match hosting, etc. It's hard to take you seriously when your comments about a game come from investing 9 hours in beta, and the game has been out 3 1/2 months now with numerous updates.

Then about the burn cards. You're having problems because people have burn cards and you don't. Well no one is holding you back, you're welcome to go earn them yourself. Not to mention that players average 6 deaths per scenario, yet you only get 3 burn cards so that means for every match, half the time players aren't even using them (not to mention even remembering to activate them). And I've found the burn cards don't provide you any magical, mystical superior powers. I've killed many players several levels higher than me and been killed by several players lower with and without using burn cards. Their effect is marginal at best, almost like a placebo more than anything.

You complain about the bots. Know how I handle those? Throw a grenade or satchel charge at them when there's a group together. Get 3-5 kills at once which satisfies my challenge requirements, gets me some xp and Titan burn time and gets them out of the way. How hard is that to figure out?

If all you're doing is running around like your *** is on fire shooting everything, then you're missing out on 90% of what the game has to offer. Try putting some imagination into your game play:

1) Finding friends and play together as a squad.
2) Play a round using nothing but your secondary weapon. I love doing that with the B3 Wingman.
3) Play a round doing nothing but killing Titans, especially rodeoing them.
4) Play a round doing nothing but killing grunts - you'd be surprised how much xp you earn.
5) Hack 3-4 Spectres and have them follow you around and do some killing for you.
6) Mix and match both your Pilot and Titan loadouts. Fill up all of your customization slots and regularly rotate through them.
7) Don't even get in your Titan, put it in "follow" mode and have it do some fighting for you. This especially works well in Hard Point Domination and Capture The Flag.
8) Use your Titan to do nothing but hunt down the snipers who like to hang out on rooftops. You can get lots of pilot kills that way.
9) Play all the game modes. Don't just stick with Attrition. Play the random mode generator so you get all of the game modes in.
10) Take the time to learn the maps. You don't have to run and shoot every second. Look around and do some exploring, even away from the main battle. Makes all the difference in the world toward success when you know the lay of the land, especially shortcuts.

Do all that with the game as it stands today, not what you experienced in beta and lets chat again about your feelings on the game.

For the people who complains about downloading the game. Suck it up and get a better WiFi. I have a standard WiFi and I fully download Titanfall for two hours.

Titanfall is bleeding out. I started playing ever since it came out and it was a blast but nowadays I have to wait for 10 to 15 minutes before it finds a good match. Mostly matches are 4 vs 3 or 6 vs 3. Never really full. Most people I've seen playing at the start aren't playing anymore. I knew this game wouldn't hold long but its lifespan has been really short. I've been playing it less and less until I've reached the point now where I hardly play it. I am awaiting something new, something that will last longer and keep my attention for a while.

Sorry for answering back late, I read your comment today at 3 a.m. and after the World Cup matches in the morning-midday and my job I finally I'm here giving you my last impressions based on your points (I read that after my 48 hours of Titanfall ran out so I figured those by my own), just for an attention to you.

I'll tell you briefly which points were checked without knowing them beforehand: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 (for killing snipers and titans when in numeric disadvantage), 10. Most of the covered points came out after incidently covering the first one: I gave it a try on sunday's afternoon playing for 2 hours, I was not bored but I think there was a "wow factor" missing and so I was about to leave [again].

Just when I was beginning my last match a friend came online in Origin and joined, because of him and two other friends joining soon after I stayed for 4 more hours [until my Origin token expired]. It is hard to judge a game objectively when playing with friends that I know in person because I enjoy even the most cr**py games when playing with them and talking with Teamspeak -not saying this game is cra**y. I covered all those points because I could count on them and have fun doing other things knowing I had someone covering my back and the other way around.

But I know I wouldn't enjoy it as much without them online and still it didn't appeal me to buy it, and is not for the lack of money, it even had a discount. To me there's something missing to complete the experience, I don't know what exactly but there's something more it needs to get me and my friends onboard. Just before I was kicked out I checked the stats and had a 54% win rate and 5 times MVP in those 6 hours I played on sunday; reached rank 24 in the end, and tried all the different burning cards I could get my hands in and the unlocked customisation.

Forg0t2 wrote something that supports my suspicion (3rd comment, 2nd half of the second paragraph), he witnessed what I couldn't all this time because I didn't own it and it seems to be a generalised perception and I don't know the exact reasons, but all those players must have one to leave it in a short time and get EA reacting that way. One big complain I still have and I can't approve it from any perspective is all the wasted time between matches: about 3-5 minutes lost after every match, that awful long time to start the match and that even more awful time to load a map. There's nothing to justify such long map loading times, not even graphically (textures aren't good) and I've seen a lot of games that use more RAM (it consumed 1.5 GB of RAM in my PC during a match in that big beach map) during a match that take way shorter time to load the map. And I quote Linus from LinusTechTips in his last WAN show "...I suspect this is much of a desperation tactic to resurrect Titanfall than anything else..." so there must be something perceived as underwhelming by the players themselves and I can't give an specific reason since a big part of having a great time playing it was due to playing it and speaking with 3 friends, which totally changes your perception simply because when you're interacting you shout, curse, coordinate and talk about off-game topics during those long pauses between matches. With "underwhelming" is where it all the debate beginned and is where our (friends and me) conclusions of not being convinced ended.
