Blizzard's first original franchise in years now has a release date. The company revealed earlier today that multiplayer first-person shooter Overwatch will launch on May 24 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PCs.

Gamers won't have to wait until late May to give the game a shot. Blizzard will be hosting an all-access open beta from May 5-9 that includes access to the full roster of 21 characters and every map that will be offered at launch. Anyone that pre-orders a digital or physical copy of the game will get access for themselves and a friend a bit earlier (May 3-4 for the closed beta).

PC gamers that receive an early access beta key will be able to redeem it immediately through Battle.net. Those that opt for the console version can begin redeeming their codes on May 3, Blizzard notes.

Blizzard also revealed that Overwatch will be offered in three different packages. The $130 Collector's Edition includes a full-color visual sourcebook, the Overwatch soundtrack and a statue of one of the game's characters, Solider: 76. The $60 Origin Edition includes some custom skins for Overwatch and other Blizzard games while the cheaper $40 option offers only the core game experience.

Do you have any plans to pick up Overwatch? Were you able to get into the closed beta late last year? If so, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

I think this is the game I saw on the UE4 developers site a while back. Not my favorite type of chr. models, too anime for my taste, kind of team fortressesque.

Games like these age the best. I hate seeing Crysis 3 like graphics. Key is mass market. This game, if well supported after the initial launch will be one of the top 5 played games, specially in the esport scene.

I don't mind the graphics quality, I am not a fan of the chr. models.
The graphics are generated by the engine, but the Chr.s are an artists creation.

I take you mean "character" models? Are they not detailed enough? I think they could do better and many more variations. One of the reasons why I love Dota is because of the sheer amount of variations with premium models and spell effect changes for the Characters.

You sound like a person that would enjoy black desert.
It has a robust chr. Creation system and all the effects you could want. I like the Chrs but not so many effects or a way to turn them off. I only found the switch for 'others effects'.

It looks good but I am done with MMOs, WoW made me hate them ^^ For now I am only caring about Dota, OW when its out and GTA V. I have a Ship in Star Citizen which I backed 2 years ago but holding off until the game is out and I have a new killer rig with VR and HOTAS.
