i have a new Acer TravelMate 4000 laptop, i don't know how my sister operates it but when i boot the laptop, it asked a BIOS PASSWORD which my sister cannot recall.

i decided to re-install a new XP OS but the CMOS/BIOS asked a password too! is there any way that i can change the boot priority setup to CD so that i can re-install the XP OS?

please do help me... thanks and God Bless!

You can try opening up the laptop & removing the battery. Leave it out for a couple of hours (with the laptop uhooked from main power of course) & the BIOS data should be erased.

you don't need to go to cmos to change boot priority. just go to I386 directory on the cd, and click setup to install xp. or from the /start/run box, type winnt32.exe. this will install xp.

go to the laptop support people they may have back door setup to reset password
there is no jumper for laptop MB's
and removing the battery will not solve it it is a flash chip on board
some laptops have to have new chip to make it work some have easy pass reset

so, there is no way i could use this computer :(( am in the philippines, it was only given to me from my cousin from canada. and to seek support from laptop support people is very difficult.
