PC cycling through failed boot up and restart

My pc (running windows xp) has worked fine for two years but last night I was on the internet and the screen put up a "no signal" message. It then started to boot iself up again but didn't get very far when it went back to the beginning of the booting sequence, then again the booting failed at the same place and it started to reboot again ... and again .... and again. This is all it will do now - oh dear.

When the booting fails, it is after PCI Device Lists and the last thing I see (only for a split second) looks like:

-----------------------

Invalid Boot INI file

Booting from C:windows

NTD Detect: failed

----------------------

Does this mean anything to anyone out there?

I know very little about computers.

Is this something I might be able to sort out?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like Something Bad has happened to your data on the hard disk.

The easiest solution would be trying to reinstall Windows from scratch. That is if you don't mind losing your data on the computer.

You should get someone with some experience with computers to have a look at it and maybe restore it to the original state.

Thanks Nodsu,

I'm going to get some local help tomorrow - to make a boot up floppy disk and see if this will get the computer started, then try to reinstall Windows onto the hard disk.
