Facepalm: Hackers have been a persistent problem in the PC version of Star Wars Battlefront II for years, but a recent wave of attacks has rendered some of the online shooter's modes completely unplayable. EA is reportedly working on a fix, but players have been waiting for days with no public response from the company.

The subreddit and official support forums for Star Wars Battlefront II are currently filled with complaints about a hack that has broken some parts of the game for all players. Some users report that every server for 40-player modes such as Supremacy and Galactic Assault is now inaccessible.

Hackers have apparently deployed a script that prevents players from spawning in affected servers, leaving all matches empty. Earlier versions of the hack were only active while attackers were logged in, allowing players to enjoy the game during certain hours. However, the updated script now locks out all legitimate players indefinitely.

To make matters worse, modding group Kyber reports that some players received abusive chat messages and were doxxed after encountering the hackers. The group also warns that scammers may be impersonating administrators and spreading fake promotions. Kyber claims that EA has implemented a server-side fix to address a serious vulnerability, but the company has yet to issue an official statement.

Bugs and hacks have plagued Battlefront II for years. In late 2021, a bug made all players in some matches unkillable, effectively breaking the game. The problem worsened over months before EA addressed it, and some users suspected hackers. Some players have connected the recent attacks to a player named "Blix," who was seen delivering threatening messages while impersonating administrators last year.

Although EA ended primary development of Battlefront II in 2020, the game has since maintained a stable player base. Many likely jumped in when the Epic Games Store offered it for free in 2021, allowing anyone to import the game into their library in EA's launcher.

Kyber is currently developing an extensive modding platform for Battlefront II that introduces a dedicated server browser, support for custom servers, a completely new launcher, Nexus Mods integration, and other features. The mod, called Kyber V2, is currently in beta. With the introduction of independent servers, the game may finally gain some protection against hacking – and a chance at long-term preservation, even after EA eventually shuts down its official servers.

Nothing tops the experience of playing on a dedicated server operated by an informed sysadmin with a love for the game and money to burn, from Quake, to Tribes, to Warcraft, and Ultima Online. It's always better in the hands of people who actually care.

The first thing I experienced in battlefront2 was cheaters. A guy spamming with machinegun with aimbot and unlimited ammo. I liked the game, but I was not going to stay there for another second.
At the very least, they should release their games with server software. Let people
host their own servers away from EA's horrible servers.
I know why they would not, because they think
it is money that they lose.
But they lose much more when they get a reputation
of the company that does not care that playing on their servers in unbearable.

Until you're on a server with vindictive staff that ban you if you kill them several times and they get angry at their k/d ratio.

Have experienced and saw other people being banned for stupid reasons on private servers, which is their right as it's their server, but it's not the paradise you make it out to be.

You also get kicked from those servers when it's full frequently if you're not one of their "buddies" as they have some priority placing.

There are pros and cons to dedicated servers, but I think the biggest pro is being able to play at all when the company that makes the game wont support it.

I didnt have that issue, but that is because I was the server admin, I kept my old desktop around as the host and left it running on the weekends so various friends could play various games. Good times, and we occasionally spin it up for a round of battlefront or cracked warcraft III.

Reminds me of Titanfall 2. Even though Apex Legends had been out for a while and Titanfall's popularity has waned, their servers were being DDOS'd to death and EA did nothing about it for a long while. Thankfully there is now a custom client with dedicated third party servers, but for a while EA just left those games' multiplayer nearly completely unplayable.
