Star Wars: Zero Company, an XCOM-style tactics game, will be unveiled this weekend

Your answer just proves you have difficulty understanding.

Super mario is what? Is it character Mario? Is it Super Mario Bros? Or Super Mario Bros 2? Or something else. You expect me to understand what you mean with that?

You could say xcom 1993 or xcom 93, then I would understand you are referring to 1993 version. Or Xcom 2012 or Xcom 12. But Xcom? Is it 1993 or 2012 version? Sorry but of you even cannot say What you are talking about, there is not much to done here.
I dont have difficulty understanding.

Im just not pedantic about my argument.

Xcom is a game series. Ive enjoyed all of them, it doesnt matter which one you are talking about. I literally said all of them. its not hard to know what I am talking about unless you are being dense for the sake of being dense.

Anyway, I am done discussing something so stupid with you. Enjoy your day!

Xcom is NOT game series. Simple as that.

I would say you both are right ? :D

When just saying 'xcom' (speech, so not reading/writing) ... xcom is xcom.
Next question will be then, which one ... the original one(s) from the '90s or the reboot ?
It's just a normal conversation, still the nuance is important, because these are (very) different games. So it helps to specify the generation of xcom, because some ppl will like the new over the old, really dislike the new and love the old, or love both generations.

Confusingly enough, the original '90s xcom is called "ufo enemy unknown" (or xcom ufo defense), while the reboot is called "xcom enemy unknown" ... so without some additional specification, it's difficult to know which one is meant :D

I also liked all of them (the turn-based ones), the first generation, also "xcom apocalypse", the reboots, ... So for me (while they are different games), xcom is more or less xcom ... and I would look forward to any new xcom style game, I'm just not very much into star wars games, so fingers crossed :D

Exactly. Problem here is that there should be very clear if people are talking about 1994 or 2012 game. If series name is not correctly written AND there is no year or something similar, it's pretty hard to say if comment is about 1994 game or 2012 game. That's understandably big problem with discussion. Not even knowing what others are writing about.

I'm more about new X-Com style of game. If this upcoming Star Wars title it's really XCOM style game, I might well pass it. It's probably XCOM but there is always hope being more X-com.

Thats why I said all xcom games. It helps clarify that for the elitists and toxic gamers.

When someone says all xcom games, you can assume they mean all xcom games...

Oh lookit, the ineternet agrees with me. shocking.

xcom is most certainly a game series. This has to be the dumbest argument Ive ever seen on techspot.

I do acknowledge the differences in the new games compared to the old ones. Thats not the point. When someone says all xcom games, you would have to be intentionally obtuse to confuse what is being said even after clarifying.

Well, how should I put this:

X-Com: 1994 published game that inspired many turn based combat games.

XCOM: 2012 published game that appealed masses because it was much more casual.

Two totally different games, 18 years between them. And yet you talk about semantics, maning schemes etc etc.

You could say same about Doom and Doom. One published 1993 and another 2016. Too bad they are written exacly same so semantics do not help here but you probably understand those are two totally different things even when using exactly same name.

🤦‍♂️

If it's so hard to even say what you are talking about, then you should not write on this topic. Again:

X-Com: 1994

XCOM: 2012

Xcom: Wtf
EXCEPT we are all referring to X-COM style games not the games specifically so it doesn't matter which one we mean or which one is better because they both fit into the turn based tactical style of games.

(The same would apply to Doom vs Doom).

In this case capital letters make difference. XCOM is game series, xcom is not. They wanted to make difference between old and new. It's not hard.

Eh? X-com style of games are waaay different vs XCOM style of games. Just because something is turn based does not make all turn based games equal.

There are many differences, for example:

X-Com style games have action point system, XCOM style games have action system. X-Com style games usually have double digit squad size, XCOM style games usually have single digit squad size. X-Com style games usually is more equipment focused whereas XCOM games usually tend to focus on abilities etc etc etc.

Two totally different things.

Man some folks just dont get that xcom is a game series.

Internet doesnt lie.

Nothing but toxic gamer culture here.
