PC Games crashing after installing Empire Total War

Well ever since I installed Empire total war I have a problem all m,y other games crash before loading or within a few minutes of playing. I dont't know what is wrong I have since uninstalled empire and the other games re installed the other games but not empire but the crashing continues. I have tried to play Oblivion, Civ 4 beyond the Sword, Medieval total war. both Medieval total war and ZCiv 4 will work for a while before crahsing usually within ten minutes and Oblivion will not load at all - what can I do help me pleasse I need my games fix.

Maybe a DirectX issue? I'm not sure only thing I can think of that has ties to all games. Hopefully someone with more insight can lend you a hand.

thanks yeh a friend suggested the same thing -can I download an older version of direct x to rectify the problem ?

Not that I'm aware of, DirectX is a part of Windows and can't be simply removed and reinstalled. I have seen people having issues similar to yours under Vista having compatibility issues between the games and DirectX. Maybe when installing Empire Total War an updated version of DirectX didn't completely remove/overwrite the old one and its causing issues. You could attempt to reinstall the latest version (depends on your OS) and see where that leads you. If you are still encountering the same issue maybe its a GPU driver issue get your latest drivers then. Besides that a complete reformat which would fix almost anything.

Obviously a reformat and reinstallation of your OS should be a last resort as you'd need to back everything up. I recommend before messing around with DirectX you back up everything important as well in case more issues arise.

I don't know how much this really helps as I simply googled around, maybe a second opinion will be able to shed some more light.
