PSU to GPU

Gtx970g has both 6&8 pin, with just the 6pin the PC turns on like normal but soon as I do anything with the 8pIn the PSU will tick and not turn on. Is this is an issue with the PSU or the GPU?

Sounds more PSU-ish, as an issue. Is the 6 and 8 pin connector on the same power cable, or separate ones? If it's on the same, then the PSU might not be able to supply enough current, even though it's only a 150W graphics card.

Edit: What brand/model of graphics card and PSU do you have?
