Qualcomm VP believes smartphones have what it takes to match DSLR image quality

How does being the CEO of a big corporation make someone an expert in everything to do with photography. Why do their opinions get repeatedly published, thereby multiplying their influence. They are not objective observers, and they have no special gift of seeing accurately into the future. Their job of a CEO is to make profits for the company, and they will say whatever it takes.

Smartphones, despite their many limitations, are already more than good enough for the photographs that most people want to make. Can we just leave it at that please?

Bigger sensor, bigger pixels, less diffraction from tiny apertures, wider range of focal lengths. These advantages cannot be matched by intensive post-procesing and AI.

The killer argument against this "smartphones are going to surpass dedicated cameras" nonsense is very simple and has been pointed out many times. Any new technology or image processing that will make smartphones even better in the future can also be applied to dedicated cameras.

The basic argument of these "influencers" seems to be that dedicated cameras are NOT going to incorporate such powerful processing units and processing algorithms as are available to smartphones. Why ever not? What is to stop them?

I respect you for being nostalgic but just watch some comparisons from experienced photographers (there are ones that speak spanish, they make camera reviews). Those took an iPhone 14 Pro Max and made shots in raw. Then both in a screen and printed, one other experienced photographer was hard pressed to identify which one came from the full sensor Sony with G premium lens and the one from the iPhone's main lens.

But hey, you can keep in denial, no harm done. As long as you are happy and others too, it's ok to have variety.
