RAM compatible with CPU?

hey guys i got a little problem

i got a cpu processor AMD athlon (tm) 64 x2 Dual core 4200+ 2.2GHZ ( 2 cpu's)C
graphic card : Nvidia geforce 8400 GS

atm im running with 1 gb ram but gonan buy another and better one. what ram do u recommend : 3 gig ram OR 4 gig ram to be compatable with cpu ??

Wouldn't it be helpful to know the motherboard, and the operating system ? That information is what is usually needed first... then the memory answer comes fairly quickly.
I would not want to try to match the existing memory module, but rather to buy new modules all of the same brand and specs... mixing memory modules too often slows things down a bit.

It's not the amount of memory that would be an issue, but they type, and if your motherboard can handle that much memory. Your board can handle up to 8gb of memory, DDR2, with speeds up to 800. If you have Vista 32-bit, it may not see all 4GB, but will still operate just fine.
