Random.exe files

Hi everyone. I'm not really computer literate so bare with me please Recently I have been recieving pop ups telling me certain .exe programs have stopped working. The only problem is the files seem to be randomly named which I'm guessing is not a usual thing. It's things like "rdgjye.exe has stopped working" or "odksj.exe has stopped working".

Does anyone know what it is and how I can remove them if they are a threat.

Are you running XP, service Pack 3? Or Vista? Try running the 8-Step Cleaning outlined in this forum
