i have read a lot of posts and have been researching it but i can't find anything.

I have 2 hdd's in my computer. one is a hitachi and the other is a maxtor. so, like the title says, my hitachi has a red "X" instead of the normal picture. my other one has the picture still but not the hitachi. i have ran chkdsk and it didn't say anything. from what i can tell, everything is working properly... why isn't the picture displayed for that hdd? is it about to crash(it has been like that for about a month)?
thanks for your help,
mike

Open the drive with the red X from My Computer
Look for a filename called "autorun.inf"
(note:you may need to click on tools-->folder options-->view-->show hidden and system files)

Delete this not required file
Restart
Check again in My Computer

Otherwise get the tweakui powertoy from microsoft and the last option will be "repair" which should let you "rebuild icons."

Also, this fault may be due to Virus/Trojan activity
