The most successful vaccines (Smallpox, etc.) are against viruses that don't mutate much. The less successful ones (Flu, Covid) target viruses that mutate basically yearly, and as they mutate the vaccines get significantly less effective (how much depends on how the virus mutates). The vaccines are quite effective against the variant(s) they target, but that variant is typically only around for a year or two before being outcompeted by some new variant.

I said it at the beginning: Covid is the new flu. Just significantly more contagious and deadly.

Flu vaccine often misses the dominant strain. Aside from that, there are tons of virus that we don't have a vaccine for. Viruses mutate fairly frequently which makes vaccines less effective. First one that comes to mind is HIV. Even colds (which are traditionally caused by less harmful coronavirus) mutate enough by a person can catch it after it's been spread about 4 people down the chain. RNA viruses mutate faster than DNA viruses due to less checks on their genetic replication. The other factor is that it spreads easily and takes a while to show symptoms, meaning more people catching and spreading it, which means higher chance of mutation within a given period of time. Sars and swine flu hit hard and fast enough that people isolated before it could spread far.

But, due to my age, I'm in a "high risk group".

With those things said, I'm double boosted to the latest standard Whether or not it was necessary, or just a placebo effect, I care not. All I know is that it frees me from histrionic hand washing, or uncertainty and worry. after a trip to the supermarket. I don't have to buy products that are opportunistically marketed as "killing 99% of viruses or bacteria." or scrub down the doorknob or counter tops every time I touch them.

I have some sociopathic personality traits, the most salient one is an almost total lack of empathy. In short, I'm emotionally detached from anyone dying from disease or gunfire, as long as it's not me. "The misanthropathy runs deep in this one", to pinch a phrase

So, whether it's for self preservation, or simple peace of mind, it's no hardship or, "abridgment of my rights", to go ahead and get the, (free to me) shots. Which I did.

The Spanish flu killed about 800,000, in a much smaller US population. Covid, (unless you subscribe to bizarre conspiracy theories), has killed over a million. Why chance it, riding the entire population "bareback", so to speak. when it can easily be avoided or mitigated by vaccination. I've had no side effects from the shots, it hasn't turned me gay, and there's no lump under my skin from a microchip. I win.

In this case I'm 100% with Google. Spam is spam regardless who sends it. This is clearly a "please look at us" situation where they refuse to comply to rules that everybody else is following and expect to receive preferential treatment.

If by "not very deadly" you mean "Death rate around 2.5%".

As for pharma companies, I note vaccines are historically money loosers for them; they need to be reimbursed by the Federal government just to break even on them.
