Rundown of Must-Have Portable Apps

The first image editing/resizing/productivity tool that I would put at the top of that list would be faststone photo resizer which is a free (for home users) small program that works flawlessly. it's very simple and lightweight yet has many useful image editing/resizing tools in it. It has a portable version too if I'm not mistaken.

- Sublime Text loads instantly, unlike VS Code which is an overkill (bloated) solution for a 'Notepad replacement'.

- VidCoder does everything Handbrake does with a slicker interface.

- PotPlayer (quietly mentioned in the article) does both VLC and WinAmp better, just get an earlier version (1.7.18958) and disable updates to avoid the popup window they added recently.

- WizTree scans way quicker and has a nicer map than SpaceSniffer, only have to put up with the attention-seeking donate button in the interface unless you do so.

I'd take Teamviewer off this list. They've really shut down almost all free accounts now.
Also, camstudio is kind of useless now that Windows 10 has all that built in.

We live in an age of PC-on-a-STICK.

Uh, not really. We live in the age of cloud computing now. I stopped carrying USB sticks with portable stuff ever since I've been able to download anything I need. If the machine isn't connected, I download it to another machine that is and transfer it over.

Really? I haven't used Teamviewer for over a year, that's really sad if true.

Had never heard of WizTree. WinDirStat has an almost identical UI and features (it is much older than WizTree), while being fully GPL open source and having no nags or begging.

Be very careful if you are going to download the Text to Speech program Balabolka. I downloaded the non-portable version last week, got a warning from Defender but bypassed that warning and ended up with the most visious Russian Trogen that activated several virus's and destroyed my Win 10 Pro System. I learned a valuable lession, do not bypass warnings.

The only portable app you need for Windows is............wait for it.... WINDOWS

Why trust portable apps on some other compromised system when you have Windows to Go or a WinToUSB thumbdrive. With a full copy of Windows, ALL of your apps are portable (Photoshop / Premiere / Audition etc)

By the way.... Do you REALLY trust portable apps ?
Do you know who made them ? Do you ? I would only trust a copy of Firefox directly from MOZILLA

I started reading the article and thought they would cover the portable OS's, too...!

What good is ANY of those, if you need a total office on the go...?
