I recently got a Dell Latitude d410, obviously being quite a new range from Dell it was built for Windows XP, but because I got it through my work the network installed on it is Windows 2000 Professional, and I've noticed that the computer is prone to crashing when running multiple operations, and was wondering if that running an OS 'inappropriate' to the computer was the cause.

W2000 is at least as stable as XP.
If you have issues, check that all the system-drivers are up to date and that you have enough memory and a defragged harddisk.
Dell laptops are normally quite suited for business apps such as Office, but not much else.
In which program(s) does it crash most often?

see if you have a HT processor this may give some W2K machines grief
also disable video shadowing another known W2K problem
make sure you are running all the lastest spk4
and have all the right drivers for the MB
