Samsung may follow Apple and drop in-box chargers

For those who says: "but the original charger included in the box is the best.."

https://lygte-info.dk/info/indexUSB UK.html

I've always used aftermarket multi-port chargers so I can skip bringing multiple chargers on a trip. but I only settle for charger with equivalent or lower noise performance than OEM one. the best part is, they often do not cost as much!

Because

A) Wireless charging is still significantly slower then wired charging, and with device batteries increasing in size that differenc eis quite noticeable
B) wireless charging is not supported across the board, many phones do not support it
C) Many people do not have wireless charging for reason B. It is a niche market.

Wireless charging is a neat feature, but it is not a proper replacement for wired charging.
A) Really good point. What if you need some extra juice fast. I think standardization of wired charging tech is the way to go so each phone released by each different manufacturer doesn't have its own proprietary charger and instead people can re-use. I think Apple is trying to push the market in that direction by purposely being the change-setter. They seem to be succeeding considering how Samsung scrapped their chargers, too.

B) I believe only those phones that do support wireless charging could possibly ship without a charger, so this shouldn't be an issue. If your phone shipped without a wired charger, it most likely supports wireless charging anyway.

C) Same as B

If the goal is to reduce e-waste, then using replaceable batteries would do a HELL of a lot more to fix the problem then not including a charger. Just sayin......
I think companies such as Apple have a very fair battery replacement program. Most countries where Apple doesn't provide Genius bar support usually have a thriving 3rd party after-sales support network.

Who didn't see this coming? Samsung copying Apple...

If there was one charger and USB cable that works for every phone then I would have no problems with it. Then again, whoever buys new Samsung or Apple phones doesn't care about anything as long as they get their logos.
100% agree that there should be standardization.

we are speaking about $999+ smartphones here.
They can afford to give us a charger.
This is just Tim Cook at his best... a bean counter. And I have no doubt that Samsung will follow any *****ic move by Apple.

And before anyone say something, I have an iPhone 11 Pro and a Galaxy S10, so I am an Apple and Samsung customer, not an hater.
True, and very likely the reason they can do this: we will continue to buy from them no matter what :D
