Second SATA drive not recognized
Hi everyone,
I have an ASUS P4PE mb, with one maxtor 80 gb SATA drive running through the on-board Promise 376 controller. I'm trying to add a second 160gb Maxtor SATA drive (I have no interest in a RAID setup, i just want the extra storage), but the drive is not being recognized. I'm running WinXP, btw.
The drive is getting power, and I have tried a couple of different SATA cables. The bios is set to auto-detect. I have the latest bios update, and the latest driver for the controller (the latest one i could find, anyways - i couldn't find support for the controller on either the ASUS or Promise websites).
Neither the bios nor windows is detecting the drive. Can someone please help me out? I'm competent with computers, but far from an expert, so feel free to dumb it down a bit for me.
