Hello and welcome to Techspot.

You might want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad file. Then you can have the file open in safe mode, so you can follow the instructions easier.

Boot into safe mode. See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html

Turn off system restore.(XP/ME only) See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial56.html

In Windows Explorer, turn on "Show all files and folders, including hidden and system". See how HERE. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html

Run HJT with no other programmes open(except notepad).Click the scan button. Have HJT fix the following, by placing a tick in the little box next to(if there).

O1 - Hosts: 66.98.136.25 auto.search.msn.com

O1 - Hosts: 66.98.136.25 auto.search.msn.es

O1 - Hosts: 66.98.136.25 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {871A54C1-1EB3-48bd-A879-5DBA4EF16BE6} - C:\DOCUME~1\MIKECA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\qvhdexfe.dll

Click on the fix checked button.

Close HJT.

Locate and delete the following bold files and/or directories(if there).

C:\DOCUME~1\MIKECA~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\qvhdexfe.dll

Reboot into normal mode and turn system restore back on.

Post a fresh HJT log as a .txt attachment into this thread. see HERE for instructions.

I have moved your post to it`s own thread. This will save any confusion.

i did what u said. i also did a new bandwidth test, a noticable increase but not to what i had it when i got it.

CNET bandwidth test
729.4 Kbps - You 729.4 kbps
768.0 Kbps DSL/Cable 768k Find ISP
1500.0 Kbps Cable/DSL 1.5Mbps Comcast

when i posted my question i had 200-300 Kbps.

i also found out other people in my area are having trouble with slow broadband.

here is my hijackthis log

-THANKS-

Your HJT log is clean.

However, it appears you`re not running any antivirus or firewall software. This is very dangerous to say the least.

You should consider installing an antivirus programme and firewall.

The free AVG antivirus programme and the free Zonealarm firewall are both very good.

You can get them HERE and HERE.

As to your slow broadband connection, since you have said other people are having the same problem, maybe you should contact your isp and ask them if there`s a problem in your area.

Regards Howard :)

If other people are having slow connections too, then it's the ISP. Comcast (in my area) has also been spotty in the past, although recently, it's been solid.
