Slow Internet and possible invasion??

We're having trouble with our wireless internet and our main PC. I have two (at least) goofy items on my desktop (Online Security Guide and Security Troubleshooting). Also there seems to be a lot of "stuff" running all the time on both our PC and Laptop. I'm worried about security (we use Webroot anti spyware & antivirus) and about the security of our wireless internet. It has been secured with a password to enter for the last year...but it wasn't for about a year when we hooked everything up. Any ideas?

hopefully you have some encrypted connections, like WEP and/or WAP.

also, with two systems, you likely have
modem-->router-->(2) wireless connections.
