Smart TVs aren't immune to ransomware as one user recently found out

BTW, those "Smart TV" devices spy on you whether you get malware or not. Their voice recognition works by capturing everything you say, sending it over the internet, recognizing it remotely, and then returning the commands back. Even though there's no need for that. Modern CPUs are fast enough to do voice recognition on site, but instead everything you say is sent over the internet to various sites. Samsung even warns their users "not to talk about anything important in front of the TV".

On top of that, the built-in camera can record any activity happening in front of it, even if the camera is off. So if you had sex with your wife (or babysitter) in front of the TV - congratulations - you may have a private porn video. Maybe you even find it on YouTube.

So many ways to have a better "smart" TV if you wanted to-- that doesn't involve it actually being a part of the TV.

Raspberry Pi, for one....
