Probably real.
If so, Malwarebytes is spying on people.
Either with or without their consent.
From their EULA---

Without limiting the Privacy Policy, you agree that Malwarebytes may track certain data it obtains from your Device, including data about any malicious software, exploits or other threats flagged by the Software (including but not limited to potential sources of such threats, such as payload files, file format and recent URL's visited), data about your license, data about what version of the Software you are using and what operating conditions it runs under and data concerning your geographic location. This information is collected and used for the purpose of tracking malicious software, exploits and other threats, and evaluating and improving Malwarebytes' products and services. Most don't read a EULA so they end up buying---

Hi! I don't mind a little spying if if helps me stay safe.:DMalwarebytes has been my friend for years and I trust them to keep me safe.

Not everyone shares this viewpoint. David makes a good point.
Yes David makes a good point and I gave him a like for his reply. Malwarebytes stopped the Chinese from hacking into my PC a very long time ago , and MBAM will always be my friend. If Spying on me will make MBAM better, then spy away MBAM. I have had the life time license for years. I run it in real time with Windows Defender. Those and a WiFi router make me feel fairly safe. I'm also a savvy surfer.:D Share the ways you keep malware off your PC!

Hi @MaikuTech I'm not a trained malware fighter, but I have cleaned many infected PC's in my retirement village.
Malwarebytes has a special rootkit program. https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1089.
I realize that rootkits use to very hard to get rid of, and a lot of trained malware fighter use to advise you to reinstall windows if you find a rootkit, but Malwarebytes is constantly improving their programs, If your trying to remove the ASK toolbar, then I suggest JRT, which is also a malwarebyes program. https://www.malwarebytes.com/junkwareremovaltool/
Malwarebytes also has another program called Adwcleaner. https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/
I do not receive one cent from malwarebytes, but I know what their programs can do and I recommend them to everyone. MBAM is my friend and my protector.
PS Malware fighters are good at what they do. They have been trained to remove malware. Times are changing and malware programs are getting better removing malware. If you can't get rid of your malware, then you should get help from a trained malware person.;) Thank you for your reply @MaikuTech

Hi @DavidBailey Thanks for your reply. MBAM also has a rootkit program beside the one found in Malwarebyes. https://www.malwarebytes.com/antirootkit/
I'm not a trained malware fighter, but I can hold my own with malware. Here's my latest rootkit scan. No threats found.
Here's the toolbars that JRT removes.
Junkware Removal Tool has the ability to remove the following types of programs:
Today's Posts
 • Ask Toolbar
 • Babylon
 • Browser Manager
 • Claro / iSearch
 • Conduit
 • Coupon Printer for Windows
 • Crossrider
 • Facemoods / Funmoods
 • iLivid
 • IncrediBar
 • MyWebSearch
 • Searchqu
 • Web Assistant
When run, Junkware Removal Tool will remove all traces of these programs including their files, Registry keys, and folders.
Here's my Rootkit scan!

Hi You might want to run the JRT program by Malwarebytes once in awhile. Make sure someone hasn't put a unwanted tool bar like ASK on your PC.;)

Hi Here's what I know after many years of fighting malware. First I don't know every thing, but I know a few things, and this is what I believe. If you run these programs, you should be able to clean your PC yourself.
https://www.malwarebytes.com/antirootkit/
https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/
https://www.malwarebytes.com/
https://www.malwarebytes.com/junkwareremovaltool/
https://www.eset.com/int/home/online-scanner/
If You run all these scanners and your PC is still acting strange, it's time to reinstall windows. If a reinstall of windows doesn't help your problem, time to start looking for hard ware problems. That's the way I address PC's that are having problems. If you have a better way, please share it with the members. That's what this thread is about.

That's assuming the switch does what it says it does. Many people feel those switches do nothing, even the ones that Microsoft has in place.
Hi @cliffordcooley I'm sure your right. Many people don't trust Microsoft, the Government, or anyone else. MBAM has been around a long time. I trust them to keep me safe and hopefully when I uncheck options, they honor my decision. I can only hope that's true and I'll really never know for sure.:D I'm sure if your on the internet, someone some where is watching you.

What does that prove? So has Microsoft and the Government.
Hi It doesn't prove any thing. I'm not trying to prove any thing. We all know if we're on the internet, someone is watching us.
MBAM is watching me, and a million more are watching me. If I wanted to slow that down I'd use a program like this. I have used this program before, but I don't use it any more. This is not my first rodeo:D

I wasn't advocating against the use of MBAM. I was only suggesting that the switch may mean nothing to those who cherish privacy. To some it may not be the fact that their privacy is being threatened, but the concern is where the company is based.

@holdum323 is one of the best helpers here.
Trust his advice.
But double check it just to be more sure.
The same for any advice offered on any forum. :)
