What just happened? Finishing Grand Theft Auto V’s main campaign is a lengthy endeavor, requiring at least 30 hours if you’re not interested in doing and seeing everything. But one speedrunner has managed it in just 9 hours. What’s even more amazing is that he never took a single bit of damage. The feat has not been without controversy, however.

As reported by Kotaku, UnNameD became the first person to complete a One Hit KO (OHKO) run on GTA V using utilized strategies. A mod was installed that kills the player if a single point of damage is received, thereby ensuring his claim was genuine. It took 48 attempts to complete the campaign successfully, and you can watch the whole thing in the three embedded videos, assuming you have a spare nine hours.

The run hasn’t been without controversy, not that anyone’s arguing about its legitimacy. Another speedrunner, DarkViperAU, had been trying to become the first person to OHKO run GTA V since early last year and recently uploaded his 27th attempt.

As per PC Gamer, a Reddit post displays a now-deleted comment from DarkViper that claims he shared strategies on how to complete the OHKO run publicly, while other speedrunners refused to do the same. “The result was that anyone running alongside me was getting far more information about what was needed to be done and what was needed to be avoided,” he wrote. “They additionally had a rich foundation to build off for their runs, something I lacked when I started, meaning anyone who begun later was far ahead compared to where I was when I began.”

UnNameD says he never intended to beat his fellow OHKO speedrunner to the punch and claims he did attempt to share some strategies with DarkViper but received no reply. He’s now been banned from DarkViper’s Discord channel.

It's fairly common for speed-runners to adopt techniques used by other runners to help shave time off a run.

That said, I'd probably be a bit upset if I were attempting something like this, sharing updates about things that work and things that don't, and was beaten to the punch too.

If anything though, it should give Viper another goal, complete the run and beat the time set as record at the same time now.

Ha who cares.. guess nothing else better to do. Need to bring out Red Dead Redemption 3 or South park 3 or Mafia IV, much better games!

DarkViper is being a little biatch. If someone's sharing their strategies with others but don't want them to actually use them, then why are they sharing them? Is it to say "Look at what a GENIUS I am, but I OWN these strategies!" or was it to help others have an easier time of it?

DarkViper can go cry in his hole. When someone whines about a problem that was created by their own EGO, that's what I call a WHINY BABY. DarkViper should grow up and realise that he's the victim of his own goddamn creation.

The thing is, if you're sharing your strategies with others, you're going to have to expect that they're going to try them out, especially if you're already known as a talented speedrunner. Otherwise it'll just look like you're saying "Look how great I am, ye peasants!!!" and I think that's exactly what DarkViper was doing, being an egotistical sphincter-holder.
Do these people have nothing better to do with their lives...
Clearly they don't, but that's kind of ironic to say considering that we're all here discussing things on techspot. It's not like our lives are awesome either.

I know, eh? Like, when are people going to stop going on and on about one of the most badly-coded open-world FPS games of all time? The only games that would look amazing in a speedrun are the Sonics because those games were made to be played uber-fast to begin with. I can't even watch a Super Mario speedrun without getting bored by World 4-2.

Oh yeah, he's being a total ***-hat over it if he thought no one else would be attempting this with the info he was sharing.
Figured I'd try to put a bit of a positive spin on it than just deride the guy for being a jerk over something that's should be expected.
