In brief: Google Stadia has been out for 18 months, but users could only use it on browsers, phones, tablets and Chromecast Ultra. Starting June 23, Google will expand the list of devices supporting the game streaming service to a number of Android TV devices including the Chromecast with Google TV and Nvidia Shield TV.

The Android TV devices receiving support for Google Stadia include the following:

  • Chromecast with Google TV
  • Nvidia Shield TV / TV Pro
  • Hisense Android Smart TVs (U7G, U8G, U9G)
  • Walmart Onn FHD Streaming Stick and UHD Streaming Device
  • Philips 8215, 8505, and OLED 935/805 Series Android TVs
  • Xiaomi MIBOX3 and MIBOX4

If you own any of these and want to try Google Stadia, simply install the app. Other Stadia users with a device not included in the list above can try experimental support to see how things go. With some luck, the device will run Stadia well enough so you can play on it. Don't forget, you'll also need a supported gamepad to play games on Stadia.

Google Stadia has seen better days. Since its debut, Google closed first-party game studio SG&E as insiders said it lacked the "understanding of the process" to make Stadia achieve what it promised. However, the tech giant claims that its streaming service is "alive and well."

Expanding the list of Stadia supported devices won't turn Google Stadia into the revolutionary platform that was promised, but it's a step in the right direction.

I think the simplest recipe for success to that project is 1 $ for 1 week to all games with 2 clicks max (while logged in).
If they can’t do that while they stay in profit it has problem.

I can see stadia being a big deal in several years. While then issues with latency will never make it suitable for fast-pace games, things like MMOs, single player RPGs and anything not am FPS would do great on it.

Get the latency down and keep supply shortages high and stadia will take off

What?

It’s impossible for the latency to reduced without a change to the laws of physics.

So why someone to pay to play a game only online, which he will not own, with lag and blur filter on it? Just because he can play it on the small screen and speakers of a phone or tablet?

So if they don’t make it cheaper and more accessible it will have problem to spread.

I don’t know in which codec they are streaming the content but I suspect x264, they have to ignore battery life and make it av1. That way it will need less bandwidth and no royalties so it will be more economical to them, in that scheme bandwidth is more important than battery because there are and bandwidth limits on many users. They just need to find 3nm asics encoders. They have to camp ouside tmsc until the take what they need. :)

I have a Shield Pro, so I guess I will give it a try.
Yep and I just signed up for an extended trials last month just to help a friend with destiny so I'll likley check it out as well I've been playing destiny on occasion from the shield via Nvidias service so would be nice to have a way to compare them directly.

I'll always have hardware of the enthusiast level at home but I'm always looking for ways to play elsewhere or for a way for less tech savvy friends to dip their toes into pc gaming.
