Steam is region locking PC games to stop people exploiting low currency values

Wow I hate to ask what you do for fun.

No we get it, is it ethical? I know the answer don’t bother ;)

So what if you travel a lot and like to play Steam games like someone suggested previously?

Yes, your IP address would be changing allot but it's not changing to anything on their watch list. The only other possible scenario is that the person is renting a bunch of different, private VPNs. It doesn't make sense for a person who is bargain hunting or a frequent traveler to switch between so many expensive services like that, especially considering private VPN services will usually lock you into a contract for a period of time.

I'm sure that a number of people do get banned because the exhibit behavior similar to those exploiting the system. In the end, you can only hope that steam continues to improve the system and it's detection methods to prevent false positives.

Frankly I don't care about any of that, it's not the real issue. Why because of where I live am I being charged 3 - 4x more for something that is digital?

Digital price gouging occurs all across the board. I have to pay $200 per book for a engineering class and computer graphics class. These are digital copies. Books from other classes aren't much cheaper.

It's also 3 times more expensive to stream new movies than to rent them. My point is, it's not just you guys that are getting the short end of the stick. Everyone feels it. These media companies are claiming that piracy is killing their business but they are gouging their legitimate customers at the same time. This is what happens when you apply copyright law to digital goods.

Just look at youtube as well. Your video can't even so much as whiff of copyrighted material or it will be taken down.

I understand and don't disagree.

Well, GOG can and has same prices everywhere, so it is possible. Steam doesn't want this and the only reason I can think of is $$.

Last time I checked Australia had one of the effectively highest national minimum wages in the world...
Something tells me that probably has something to do with their inflation. ( At least digitally, being an isolated island nation/continent I'm sure the cost of selling physical goods is also higher.)

I am working in Kazakhstan, but I am from Europe. I travel here and there all the time. Does that mean I won't be able to play my games anywhere I go? That is outrageous! Or should I be looking for the most expensive way to buy, just to make sure I could play it in the future? That is such a bullshit, steam.
