Matrix started out much like Skynet. As a last resort people blackened the sky in Matrix. And then the machines started using people as batteries instead of killing them.
Why did you feel the need to repeat that plot? The most morrronicc plot in the history of sci-fi? Made by two brothers, who turned into two sisters, who together couldn't write a proper article, let alone a script?
The original script was NOT written by the brothers/sisters who directed the movie. It was written by a smart person, whom they (probably) paid, and then massacred the important parts. In the original script, some humans were captured by the machines, connected to a big matrix, where inside of a simulation they studied how human brains work, so that machines could devise the best strategy of beating the entire human population.
Excellent idea, right? But the stupid brothers/sisters butchered his script (for unknown reason, except maybe too much narcotics) and turned it into "machines growing humans, even building a super-advanced simulation software for them, which burns tons of energy, and then feeding humans, which requires lots of energy and food (where did they grow it??) just to extract a bit of body warmth from their bodies".
I mean, even a 10-year old would see they are wasting energy, not gaining anything. Any machine advanced enough to build something as complex as the Matrix would be intelligent enough to not build it. Instead, it would just dig a few big holes and tap into almost unlimited geothermal energy source. Without the need for growing anything or creating an energy-intensive and compute-intensive simulation so that humans can enjoy.
They could have made a few fantastic movies, that can be watched by both 8-year olds and 50-year olds, but instead they've made the versions for 8-year olds only.
