Editor's take: Andor, the best Star Wars TV show ever – and one of the best shows of any genre – is coming back for a second season on April 22, 2025. To build excitement for the gang's return, the first trailer has just dropped.

The multi award-winning Andor has rightly been hailed as standing head and shoulders above the other Star Wars universe TV projects. Even those who know nothing about or dislike the franchise George Lucas created are enjoying the show's brilliant writing, story, and characters.

The first season of Andor was set across a single year, often with big time jumps between episodes. Season 2 has an interesting premise: it is set over four years, with one year taking place across every three episodes – and Disney will be releasing three episodes every week. This time period will lead up to the events of the Rogue One movie.

Andor season 2 sees Diego Luna's Cassian Andor return along with favorites such as Stellan Skarsgard's Luthen Rael, Genevieve O'Reilly's Mon Mothma, and Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera.

As shown in the trailer, Rogue One's Orson Krennic, played by Ben Mendelsohn, is joining the show as he oversees the construction of the Death Star. Another Rogue One character making an appearance in Andor is K-2SO, the sardonic droid voiced by Alan Tudyk.

According to the official synopsis, season 2 follows the story of Cassian Andor and the emerging rebel alliance over the climactic years that lead to the discovery of the Death Star.

Disney could use another Star Wars hit right now. The Acolyte was hated by viewers, though critics were more forgiving, and was canceled after just one season. And while Skeleton Crew has a high critic and audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, its two-episode debut attracted the lowest number of viewer minutes for any Star Wars premier on Disney+, meaning a second season seems unlikely.

In other Rogue One news, there was a story last year about Disney facing a lawsuit over the 2016 movie using CGI to bring horror legend Peter Cushing back to virtual life as Grand Moff Tarkin.

Andor brought Star Wars universe closer to reality, EA and Ubisoft DEI stuff pushed everyone away from SW. Lets see what season 2 will be. Another DEI this IP will not survive.

Andor was the only good series released for Star Wars. The Mandalorian had an okay first season, but it went to shite after that with DEI/cancel culture crap that wove its way into the series. I never bothered with season 3 since season 2 was a letdown.

If the second season of Andor is even half as good as the first, it'll still be a better show over anything else Star Wars related since Disney took over.

Missing the fact this will be the last season of andor. And the reason for the time jumps (originally planned for 4 years 4 seasons, realised the actor would look too old to flow into the rogue one movie. )

And really that this has to do with tech?

Andor is so good that even people who don’t like Star Wars love it. The show spanning four years in just 12 episodes feels bold, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Andor. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian would’ve stretched that same timeline into six seasons and a dozen spin-offs.

As as close as typical Scifi, skiffy as in iffy as in bullshit, can bring it. Ain't no empires in the future, however much Dumpy et al and their ilk, nor the Fantasy throwbacks, might think.

Around half of the show's OK while the other half drags. Also, I think there are problems with the way the stories are weaved, similar to what happened to latter seasons of Stranger Things.
