In a nutshell: A TikTok moderator has sued the platform and parent company ByteDance for failing to provide support to workers who are exposed to graphic content, including child pornography, beheadings, and school shootings.

Bloomberg reports that in her proposed class-action lawsuit, content moderator Candie Frazier says she had to screen videos involving cannibalism, crushed heads, suicides, and a fatal fall from a building.

The complaint states that although TikTok was one of several social media firms to introduce guidelines—such as psychological support and limiting shifts to four hours—designed to help moderators cope with exposure to child pornography, the company failed to implement them.

The suit also states that TikTok moderators work 12-hour shifts with just a one-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks, and that they must watch hundreds of videos each day. Frazier’s lawyers said the employees are permitted no more than 25 seconds per video and often view three to ten videos simultaneously.

Las Vegas resident Frazier says she now has post-traumatic stress disorder due to the graphic videos. According to the complaint, she also has trouble sleeping and suffers from horrific nightmares when she does sleep.

Frazier is seeking compensation for psychological injuries and a court order requiring the company to set up a medical fund for moderators.

Moderators suing companies for allegedly causing them PTSD isn’t something new. A content moderator for Facebook contractor Pro Unlimited sued the social network in 2018 after the “constant and unmitigated exposure to highly toxic and extremely disturbing images at the workplace” resulted in the disorder. There was also the case of a YouTube mod who sued the Google-owned firm in 2020 after developing symptoms of PTSD and depression, a result of reviewing thousands of disturbing videos.

I wonder why people bother uploading such things anyway if they know they'll just get moderated and deleted. I have yet to stumble across anything graphic like something you would find on bestgore or ogrish on Facebook or Tiktok.

OK, by 25 seconds in, the young lady, (underage or not), generally hasn't gotten her booty shorts off yet.

Alprazalam, (and other longer acting benzodiazapines), would take care of that. Even at a low dose the bad dreams go away, and she'd be on the beach in Hawaii, or just about to get laid in her hotel room. (Unfortunately that's when you wake up).

OK, the videos these mods are more likely overexposed to, are the never ending commercials for "personal injury attorneys", on broadcast TV.

As for "depression", the drug companies are pushing "pills that help the anti-depressant you're already taking work better"..If it came to that, I'd jump off a building.

In today's snowflake infested world, "grief counselors" are in their glory. Suppose some kid in your school was murdered. You didn't know him, you never met him, and he or she were in a different class and grade. How is this so traumatic that now you need "grief counseling"? How is this going to drive you into a tailspin so severe, you can no longer function? How is this going to justify a couple dozen psychologists billing your school board a couple hundred dollars apiece. The next thing you know, you'll be seeking counseling because your real estate taxes are so high, you can't pay them, and you're "depressed" over that.

So, maybe she should get a job at a florist's shop. Or would making floral arrangements for funerals, be "too depressing"?

Emotions and empathy are vastly overrated. Get over them.

Emotions yes Empathy No
Speak for yourself. Oh, you were. Never mind. People such as myself do get jaded after awhile. .For example, I cheer when our fair city sets a new murder record. Then I'm amazed when the "community" thinks that the answer to the problem is to dole out money to them "to fix the problem". Well, if the parents didn't pitch crack and smack out the front door and leave guns laying around the house while their budding sociopaths were growing up, we'd have far less of a problem.

Of course after mom gets to jawing on the news claiming her hoodlum son, " could have been president", it kind of dulls their credibility. You think I should have "empathy"? Bullsh!t, I'm just thankful I didn't get in the way of the gunfight.

Dang this was a lot of words just to say "I don't understand mental health and everyone who isn't me is a snowflake" lol. Solid troll tho, almost had me.

Ha, ha, made you look But I do understand mental health fairly well.

Besides, it wasn't a "troll" per se. It was a "preemptive counterpoint". ;)

I took a survey course in criminology. A eminent psychologist, Emil Dirkheim took 5 pages to explain, "the definition of crime depends on where you set the threshold of what society establishes is a criminal act. In other words, "where society sets the bar. I have to admit, I aspire to his eloquence..

Merry Christmas..! :)

Is it really true that he won? Well if you're going to do some backslapping, it might as well be his. I don't really need it.

Do you know what they call it when a bunch of snowflakes come down at once, but there's not enough to lay on the ground? Snow flurries.

I would propose that our society is weaker and needier emotionally today, than at any time in the past. That's provable by that fact that my use of "snowflake", pissed you off so badly.

Empathy is something I practice. I don't waste it though.

Might be that I'm drunk, but I really really liked your post sir...

Snow flurries? Lol, very creative, but I still don`t want to feed you.

The heck is with these people, this is your job. Don't like it? Do something else. Reminds me of angrier case: I love it when another actress comes crying foul complaining about "harassment" 20 years later but was more than happy to give some to Harvey when getting the role. Well well well well, you couldn't care less when account was getting fat, suddenly you grow a moral compass? Yeah, right. Can't wait until this whole metoo, 3rd wave feminism and sjw crazy movement is reversed and the handmaid's tale regimes will come into place. Poland, Hungary same some more countries in Europe already heading for this. Good.

Can I ask how old you are? You're speaking as if all people are, or should be, the same. This speaks of a deep lack of human interaction/experience in your life. People are often very different in how they perceive the world, you can't put them in cookie cutter constructs and say THIS is how you need to be.

I think he doth protest the snowflakery too much.
That's soooo cute. Shakespeare's quotes and syntax have persisted in colloquial English for centuries. That one I believe, was lifted and paraphrased from, The Taming of the Shrew. I sometimes I indulge in them myself. Feel free to correct me about that if I am in error..

As to the lady in question's lawsuit. "PTSD" is a diagnosis generally reserved for soldiers returning from war. These are people who have witnessed having various parts of their own bodies blown off. Perhaps, having the soldier sitting next to them's brains splattered all over them, while sitting in a Humvee by a Taliban sniper. Or perhaps, receiving traumatic brain injuries during an Iranian rocket attack provoked by Donald Trump.

Some more facts for you. Personal injury lawyers literally roadblock the broadcast airways with promises of gigantic windfalls on money, based on any sort of real, or perceived, mental and or physical injuries..

As for my age, I'm 73. That said, here's a direct quote, not some cutsie-pie adaptation, for you to mull over::

........."Ut est rerum omnium magister usus" Look it up..

Good luck with that lawsuit, she's taking on the Chinese government

I use to love watching horror movies. Then I tried watching the Hills has Eyes. I turned it off. I didn't sue.
That's the same way I react to personal injury law firm's commercials. And trust me, they come non-stop these days. "Have you been harmed by watching a dirty video"? Dial 1-800-SHYLOCK.

Any yes, if you were wondering, "why the caps", many of them do pump up the volume with compression.
