Traveldrive not found

I'm hoping someone can help me
I have a couple memorex 512md traveldrives
while working, I plugged one (6 months old) into a Win XP laptop
It found the traveldrive no problem
Then I removed it from the laptop and plugged it into a Win XP desktop
It wouldn't find it at all
I tried it back in the laptop and it wouldn't find it there either
I took my other (brand new) traveldrive and plugged it into the laptop
It found the traveldrive no problem
When I tried to use this traveldrive in the desktop, it wouldn't find it
I tried this one back in the laptop and it can't find it now
I could see one traveldrive going bad, but two right in a row??
Any ideas??

could be the pc plug for the device has bad power rail
or device could not handle the power rail spike ??
usb powered or separate power supply??

connect to the pc and do a reboot
