Whats up? My 2000 Sony Vaio Intel Pentium 4 is going wacko, because I have a trojan virus. I have XP Professional, and I downloaded the free AVG Edition from the internet. It only heals the trojan virus, but does not fix the problem. This is an old story for computer expert veterans. Can any veteran help me fix this problem to kill the virus and send it to the abyss.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.

Infected Files

Thanks for the info. I installed the 30 day free trial of AVG Anti-Software and eliminated 83 infected objects in which 16 were serious. I sent the 16 serious ones to quarantine. If this solved my problem, do I need to purchase the full version of AVG Anti-Spyware or can I install the 30 day free trial again. I will keep in touch with you if I happen to encounter similar any other problems with my computer. Lets play this by ear, because I am new to this, so bear with me.

Once the 30 day trial of AVG Antispyware ends, the programme will continue to work and can still be updated. You`ll just lose one or two features that I don`t consider necessary in any case.

I strongly advise you to continue with the instructions and post the requested logfiles as well as the Panda Antirootkit results.

Just because AVG Antispyware has found and dealt with some infections on your system and you aren`t noticing any further problems, doesn`t necessarily mean your system is free from malware.
