Trouble with SATAII drive and DVD drive, Cannot install OS

I just recently put together my first computer, but am having trouble with my ASUS DRW-1608p2s DVD drive. First, it was easily recognized by the A8N-SLI BIOS. Then I installed my SATA II hard drive, and now can not see the DVD anymore. I can't install my OS or anything, please give me some insight into this, anyone.

That's a really weird one..

My best guess for a suggestion would be to check the cabling connections.. make sure that the DVD drive is set up as "master" and is at the end connection on the IDE cable, and that the SATA II hard drive is connected to the first SATA II port on the motherboard.

To my understanding, there's no logical reason why this should be happening to you.. They're on 2 entirely different busses.

Oh.. wait.. now that I think about it.. The ASUS website said that the AN8-SLI has a built in RAID controller that is capable of bridging between the IDE and SATA busses... You might check in your BIOS to make sure that feature is disabled. It might be mucking things up.

Hope it helps.
