Inactive Virus infection -- even after re-install

Hello All,

I had a W32/Virut.n.gen(Virus) infection in my system earlier. Its a workplace pc and has mcafee antivirus installed. Once it starts detecting this virus its detected in almost all the .exe files. The antivirus pops up as soon as I start teamviewer or cmd or ftp :(. For this problem my pc was formatted once and all the data scanned. I didn't install any required software for a day. Later I installed few of the required software and again this infection is coming from nowhere. Currently I have kept the system on scan again. I am confused on how can this virus come again on the re-installed and scanned system. I need help to get rid of this virus infection before logging call to admin ( who is going to just format and install the system :( )

What kind of disk was used for reinstalling Windows?

Thanks Broni,

I don't know about the installation disk, but since the virus appeared 2 days after the installation I don't suspect the installation disk source. This would be genuine windows XP SP3 official disk for dell pcs that come bundled with it.

That would be most likely recovery CD.
If that's the case it doesn't format your drive.
It simply overwrite what you had with the original image.

In case of Virut hard drive has to be formatted, then Windows installed.

Ok,

For now I had done a scan in safe mode. If any more popups I will ask for a complete reformat this time.

Thanks ... I will re-post soon ...
