Inactive VIRUS on my college laptop! Help!

Hey, so I recently found my computer has been acting up and so I spent a whole day on the phone with Dell. They deduced it to be a virus and I couldn't afford their services of removing it. So I'll tell you what I know/ experience:
Operating System: Windows 7 64 bit.
RAM: 8 gb
Hard Drive: 1 tb
Description: It first started when I turned on my computer and a pop up appeared saying "Failed to create Conexant Audio Factory, Smartaudio will now exit." I also noticed the internet icon (the one showing bars of wifi) had the "loading" spinning circle over it despite the fact that my internet worked (it did run wayyyyy slower than usual though). Programs also had an issue with either taking forever to load or not loading at all, and when they did load you I had to be careful not to do too much to make them stop responding (which was very easy after these problems began). Also, my Real-time protection on Microsoft Security Essentials wouldn't turn on and Dell said the virus was preventing it from working. I believe that's all the issues I've had, but they fluctuate every time I turn my laptop on. Thanks.
