Ubisoft revealed back in February that a Watch Dogs sequel was in the works and should arrive by the end of fiscal year 2017. It’s still somewhat early in development – there aren’t yet any story details or plot lines to share – but we have recently learned some other interesting facts about the game.

According to a report from The Country Caller, Ubisoft said at a press briefing during the Game Developers Conference that Watch Dogs 2 will support DirectX 12. That’s not really breaking news in itself but the fact that it was revealed at an AMD event is a bit telling, especially if you remember the incident surrounding the original Watch Dogs a few years back.

The first game made use of GameWorks, an Nvidia toolset provided to developers to help build their games. AMD’s Robert Hallock told Forbes in 2014 that GameWorks represents a clear and present threat to gamers by deliberately crippling performance on AMD products to widen the margin in favor of Nvidia.

Naturally, Nvidia denied much of the allegations AMD had to say but the fact that Ubisoft has seemingly jumped sides and is now partnering with AMD is telling. It’s also worth clarifying that both AMD and Nvidia support DirectX 12.

With any luck, Watch Dogs 2 will arrive without the performance hiccups and other mishaps that hampered the original’s launch – regardless of which camp’s graphics card(s) you’re running.

Meh... I got this game for cheap on Steam and was all excited until I played it. Graphics were indeed washed down, didn't look anywhere near the screenshots and I have it all on max. Plus the driving physics drove me mad. I rage quit within an hour of trying to play that horrible game.

Maybe there is some fixes for it... but I haven't looked. It just didn't grasp my interest.

Another opportunity for Ubisoft to fail hard. At least they are consistent.

Why won't they just stop making games.
