Watch: Every iPhone model ever made compared side-by-side

  1. With smartphones becoming such an instrumental part of our lives and incremental speed increases becoming less apparent, it’s easy to get a bit jaded if you’re the type that upgrades to a new device each and every year.

That said, often the best way to really evaluate real-world change is to compare a current phone with earlier iterations which is exactly what YouTube user EverythingApplePro has done.

In the video above, the user conducts a side-by-side comparison of every iPhone ever made – from the original iPhone in 2007 all the way through the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Predictably, the newer phones win the battle most of the time although in my opinion, the results can be a bit misleading.

If it were up to me, I’d test each phone with the iOS version it was designed for as loading a later operating system on an earlier device is only going to make it run poorly. Then again, in the real world, pretty much everyone is going to update their phone to the latest OS it’ll support so perhaps that may be the more accurate test after all.

In addition to speed tests, the YouTuber compares heat and audio output as well as each device's camera capabilities. To see the crummy photos that earlier iPhones produced compared to what they’re capable of today is quite breathtaking (but it’s still no match for a standalone digital camera… not yet, anyway).

That video has over 1.27 million views, translating to at least $50,000 in ad revenue to the creator.

He has one. A very lucrative one.
