Weekend Open Forum: How will Trump's presidency affect the tech world?

Finally Americans have the hero they deserve. While I am going to enjoy the suffering of those who voted for him here, I can't help but feel sorry for those who did'nt. Anyways here is to hoping that China will be a better leader to the world than America ever was.

Well lets see .... people will have more $ in their pockets after lessening taxes and creating jobs. Businesses will have more money to invest after getting rid of highest capital gains tax in the world. Gee, everyone has more to invest and spend..... wonder how that will shake out in the tech world? Are you kidding me? Who writes this stuff, bunch of smowflakes? Lets all be afraid and scared... make you feel better? We can find you a safe space.

First thing he does in office? Declares war on the environment and regulations because they get in the way of business. Yeah, well that cyanide from your mining gets in the way of people drinking their water and that factory smog gets in the way of people breathing.

Yea, I for one cant wait to see the DEF fluid, regen, and diesel particulate filters removed. We used to purchase diesel equipment, and diesel trucks at work for their reliability, but you cant count on them to give you a days work without crapping out on you with all that stuff. It all really slows down productivity, is costly, and dangerous when a backhoe just shuts down with no warning in the middle of an active runway because of carbon.

Besides, " necessity is the mother of invention ". So, the sooner we destroy the Earth, the sooner we will be exploring the stars!

In as much as he is touting the "buy America" plan, it could have a chilling effect on technology that comes back to the USA from foreign shores. Might be very interesting considering all those "Make America Great Again" hats were produced in Vietnam. Only time will tell.

How can China be a better leader to the world than USA? China has claimed almost all of South China Sea as its own, including areas considered as exclusive economic zones of other nations. My great grandfather was from Fujian province in China who came, lived, and did business in the Philippines before WW2 and I am so ashamed of China's imperialistic moves...

Actually, not everyone has more money in their pockets. Just the rich and we are still waiting on that trickle down from the Reagan era. Go look at any book concerning economics, concentration of wealth in a few companies and a few people means that less money is moving which means slower economic growth.

If Trump wants goods to be produced in the US, then the price of goods will rise because American labor is more expensive than foreign labor in emerging markets.

Also, if Trump truly frustrates the world, there may be a rise in the price for goods as some nations may decide not to trade or buy as much from the US. The US is the largest importer an exporter in the world. Additionally, Terrorist groups may increase because now they have a good reason to hate America more and there could be another war around the corner.

This is all just speculation but it's proven fact that when the US President is generally well liked in the world the US economy and global business does better as a whole.

I just hope Trump changes very little in his time in office until the US gets another competent president that knows how to lead.

I am not saying China is going to be a less imperialistic than the US, merely that I hope so. As an avid follower of post WW2 history it boggles my mind that the United States is accusing other countries like Russia of political interference or China of imperialism with a straight face. Coming to the tech world I would say the top technical universities in China are rapidly gaining ground. Earlier they used to produce a huge volume of research but most of it was not high quality. However I can surely say that this has changed a lot in the past few years and things are looking good for them. Research in American academia is driven by attracting the best talent in the world and I can see the boorish behaviour of the Trump crowd is certainly not helping it. The last bit is anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt.

This anti-Trump circle jerk is fun to watch. As an independent, stop it. now.

If it was fun to watch you would not be telling us to stop.

According to Trump, schools are a breeding ground for liberalism which is apparently a bad thing. First time in American history when fighting for your rights is a bad thing, and that's a very scary precedent.

That is symptomatic of the strain of anti-intellectualism (not saying all liberals are intellectuals) running rampant and is probably not going to be good in the long run(Duh!), but it's definitely a testament to America that they have done so well in spite of having such *****s in huge numbers.
PS:Rob if you are reading this I would advice you to ignore naysayers. This topic is highly relevant to the tech industry and continue the good work.

Trump names Rudy Giuliani as cybersecurity adviser. Don't worry Rudy is older then Trump. No this is not a joke but it is lol.

That wouldn't be surprising at all. He already appointed the foreclosure master to head the treasury and a man who studied animal husbandry in college to head the department of energy. Trump says he appoints the "smartest" people but then we constantly hear things like "oh, I had know idea this department does thing like this" from his cabinet appointments.

First thing he does in office? Declares war on the environment and regulations because they get in the way of business. Yeah, well that cyanide from your mining gets in the way of people drinking their water and that factory smog gets in the way of people breathing.
Will it be worse than this?
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/03/24/americas-water-crisis-goes-beyond-flint-michigan.html.
https://insideclimatenews.org/news/...contaminated-drinking-water-epa-now-concludes
https://www.americanrivers.org/threats-solutions/energy-development/pipeline-failures/
but I think this all down to Trump as hes been in office so long

Given that the EPA is being run by a man who doesn't believe in protecting the environment, yes it could be allot worse. Like don't drink the tap water anywhere worse.

Obama has tried on multiple occasions to pass infrastructure bills and it has always been blocked by the republican majority. They weren't called the do nothing congress under Obama for nothing, they passed the least amount of legislation of any US congress ever.

Ignorance is bills.

Its sad, on both sides...

You have those that think Trump can do no wrong and would follow him off a cliff.
You have those that think Trump can do no right and will find fault with any and every choice he makes, even if it were to save a buss full of nuns.

And maybe 2 open minded people in the world that know he is going to make mistakes " as everyone else does, part of being human " but will give him a chance.

He's gotten chances again and again. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Trump wouldn't save a bus full of nuns. He'd say the same thing he said to that gold star mother. "I don't like losers I like winners and winners don't die."

Hardly anyone thought Trump would win the Republican nomination.

Once he did, hardly anyone thought Trump would win the Presidential election.

I knew I was not smart enough to accurately predict who would win either. I am not smart enough to predict whether Trump will do a good job, a bad job, or somewhere in between. I am amazed however that so many people who were wrong about Trump winning the Republican nomination and the Presidential election now think they can accurately predict how good a job he will do as President.

Why don't we just wait and see?

All this whining about what Trump MIGHT do reminds me of the old Danny Thomas story about borrowing a jack:

A guy is driving out in the hinterlands on a cold rainy night when he gets a flat tire. He looks in the trunk and there is no spare. He remembers passing a service station about 5 miles back, so starts trudging back, wet and cold. As he is walking, he first worries that the station will have closed by the time he gets there. Then he starts worrying about whether they will have a jack he can use. Then he starts worrying about how much they will charge and realizes he is in no position to bargain. He starts obsessing over how much they might charge, getting angrier and angrier as he gets colder and wetter. He finally arrives at the station--which is still open--opens the door and yells "You can keep your f***ing jack."

Donald Trump as president projects as much paranoia as her does hope. Both in equal measure, IMHO.

He nailed right on the head what our inner cities are about. And the drug dealing, welfare collecting denizens thereof are running their yaps about how, "he's not our president". How right they are.

The newscasters were suggesting the The Donald isn't actually a Republican, and so, in spite of the fact both houses are controlled by Republicans, they might not bend to Trump's will every time. The House of Representatives elected terms are only 2 years. Accordingly, if the people get sick enough of the Republican's bullsh!t, the house could go democratic in a lot sooner than four years.

I have no idea how Trump will effect the tech world.

But with that said, I think it's great that we have a president who firmly believes that North Korea is more urgent an issue than some twit with his nose out of joint, because he wants to piss standing up in the little girls room. But OTOH, I think it would be a disaster if Roe v. Wade were repealed. Both things are on our new president's agenda, an increase in military spending, and a very conservative Supreme Court Justice. So I guess the only thing I have offer is this caveat, "fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride"!

Pretty sure Trump has the republicans more than under control. They bowed for him after he said things no other politicians have said, they have no choice but to continue the charade.

Roe v Wade will likely be repealed under Trump. They already got the voting rights act of 1965 repealed, might as well erode as much progress as we can. Like for example, new deal era banking regulations that Trump has in his sights. Wonder how the economy will do without the regulations that prevented the stock market crash?

And here I was thinking this was a tech website, not yet another feeder to the regressive liberal agenda like Extreme tech is.. here's a thought; instead of guessing at shite, why not wait to hear what they are looking at doing, then ask. He's said a lot of things that he's admitted were hyperbole , just to gauge the populations reactions..

I mean so far it looks like they are looking to appease their puppet masters in the Kremlin.

The funniest thing about this election is that it showed the people that usually love to call themselves patriots - ended up elected a puppet of a foreign government. A foreign government actively working to destabilize Europe and American interests.

So: "How will Trump effect the Tech world?"

Horribly. Just like the effects of most of his actions.

So I take it that you voted for Clinton. She was actually a puppet of the ghetto dwellers of America. Say what you like about Trump, but he called it as a lot of us see it, "the carnage of our inner cities.

I do sympathize with you, now being possibly forced to send less of your paycheck to support welfare mothers, who have live in, "baby daddies", pushing crack and smack out the front door to subsidize their income.

And please don't go to the trouble of trying to tell me I'm wrong. I'm from "the hood", and I bear witness to it each and every day.

So, "ah poor baby", your next iPhone may cost a bunch more if it's made in the USA. That's tough sh!t.
