Weekend Open Forum: Who had the strongest showing at E3?

There's been a barrage of announcements coming out of E3 this past week from all the big names in gaming. Here's a brief recount if you missed our coverage: Nintendo talked up its next generation console, the Wii U, putting a lot of emphasis on its new controller concept and their intention to target both casual and hardcore gamers. The company also celebrated the 25th anniversary of Zelda and announced a bunch of games.

Sony, after apologizing once again for the recent security breach, revealed 'Vita' as the official name for its PSP successor and announced that pricing for the quad-core handheld will start at $250. Thay also announced a PlayStation-branded 3DTV that can generate two totally different images at the same time, so combined with the included glasses each player will see an image that's only viewable through their lenses.

Microsoft didn't have any hardware announcements to make and instead focused on a bevy of Kinect-friendly titles, while also announcing a new Halo trilogy that is set to begin with Halo 4 in the fourth quarter of 2012. Besides software titles, the company revealed additional Dashboard features and live television streaming in the U.S. for the Xbox 360.

While the focus of the show was decidedly on consoles, PC gamers can also look forward to dozens of titles hitting the platform in the coming months, as you can see on our recent compilation of game trailers. All in all there was a little something for everybody so without dragging this on our question to you is: who do you think had the strongest showing at E3? While not on my list or on my radar prior for that matter, Tomb Raider surprised the shiz outta me! Looks pretty bad azz... real talk.
 
I don't know... I think I'm most psyched for Skyrim, which will be best on PC, of course. Other cross platforms like From Dust and Deus Ex will also be best on PC, unless they get screwed up (crosses fingers). As far as PC exclusives go... The Old Republic might just convince me to join a MMORG.
 
I've never like Tomb Raider, but now, as pcnthuziast says, I got a little impress, I really hope the gameplay system and story lives up to the graphics on this game! Obviously BF3 is and will be the big hit, and although I haven't played any Bioshock before, the trailer seen was very nice... So, concluding... PC +1
 
I have to admit, CCP surprised me with their DUST 514 playstation game which will remain on their shared EvE Online shard.
 
here's how i ranked the big three...

1st place goes to Sony. Uncharted 3, Vita, affordable 3D display, and other cool games that are coming soon.

2nd place goes to Nintendo because of the Wii U. they would've won E3 but they show off Wii U with just tech demos and not actual games. but i believe the Wii U will do great in the future. the 3DS is going strong, too.

3rd place Microsoft. forza4, gears3, and halo 4 are great. but everything else was all kinect. we all know that Dance Central is the best Kinect game but trying to put kinect on "hardcore" games like ghost recon and all that is kinda meh.

I must say that Tomb Raider was (for me) an always difficult franchise to like. Difficult levels, low amounts of action (if none), crippling story, s**tty lighting and those Goddam wibblywobbly heads that would bounce at mach 7 every time somebody speaks!

But to tell the truth, the developers have clearly taken a good turn now. Releasing a Tomb Raider game which depicts the story behind Lara Croft is definitely much more eye-turning than the previous games. Getting to know her from the start, just like some of us wanted.

All in my opinion, naturally.
 
Affordable 3D display is nothing new... They have 3D monitors on newegg for 350, or even 230. Add 100 for wired glasses, or 150 for wireless, and your Nvidia computer is 3D for 500 (which is what Sony is charging) or even less.
 
since E3 stopped letting the common people into it to view the material
I stopped thinking about E3
the reviews about a beta game in development don't Matter only the final release review is relevant and for that I wait until a week before its release and there everywhere

Uhh... Obviously it is targeted towards existing PS3 owners and considering that it's $499 BUNDLED with a game (Resistance 3) and 2 glasses (which are worth $69.99 each.)

So if you use your brain (which I doubt you do) you'll see that the actual price consumers will pay for the TV itself is only around $299.
 
Skyrim looked awesome and Tomb Raider was a big surprise. I'm a PC at heart, so all of these new games are my excuse for a fresh new build. Rage, Bioshock Infinite, Diablo 3, Stracraft 2 WOL, Guildwars 2 are all on my short list.

The biggest deal wasn't the price anyway, it was the two players each seeing a separate screen where their character is centered. No split screen! Genius application for 3d. I don't care about "bullets flying out of the screen", but being able to play coop and have the screen all to myself is cool. As for 3d itself, call me when they make a holo-deck.
 
you got me too for the holo-deck business....probably on 2nm video cards and processors!
 
It won't be 3d for the two player spit screen... just allow for split screen using the technology normally used for split screen.

As I said before, there is already a monitor (albeit 22" not the 24" Sony is offering) for $230. If you use your eyes and your brain (which you obviously have not) you would realize this is cheaper than the $299 option from Sony. I have also seen 32 inch 3D capable televisions go on sale for less than $500. Therefore, I will reiterate: the Sony bundle is nothing revolutionary. It is just keeping with the market trends. (Besides, while 24" is a pretty decent size for a computer, it's rather small for a television you are using with a modern console.)
