What's a good movie?

When I saw Kiera in Pirates (the first one?) that was the first time I had ever seen her, and for a while I did think it was Natalie.
In their late teens, (IMO, of course), they looked like sisters.

Surprised nobody commented on Ip Man that I suggested. Maybe nobody has seen it?
This would be an unpromoted film. As a victim / recipient of OTA TV, I wouldn't even be made aware of its existence.

However, in the big budget, martial arts, extreme FX genre, there's always "Forbidden Kingdom" to fall back on!

Come for the violence and FX, stay for the women, that's what I say. (Li Bing Bing, and "Crystal" Liu. (Actually YiFei Liu)). http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1703577/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0508356/

I have Ip Man on bluray - good flick. I need to pick up part 2. I recently watched Reign of Assassins and that was pretty decent too if you like the old style martial arts flicks but with updated visuals.

I have not seen Forbidden Kingdom. Ip Man doesn't have a whole lot of crazy special effects, there are only a few scenes that defy gravity. So most of the film you believe what you are seeing.

Wanna know who Keira really favors a lot of the time... Shannyn Sossamon.

Dude -- I'M watching that movie --

esoteric schmesoteric, it's about a hobo with a dream to buy a lawn-mower and start his own lawn-mowing business. He saves up enough money but when he's buying his mower a girl is getting harassed by some thugs. Instead of purchasing his lawn mower he buys a shotgun instead and decides to become a vigilante. PLUS it has rutger hauer! What's not to love?

For real. That sounds @#$%! AWESOME -- and Rutger Hauer? Blade Runner? LadyHawke!? COOL!!!! (Seriously -- I'm a huge Rutger Hauer fan.)

Makes The Limey seem pedestrian by comparison (although The Limey is still one fine piece of cinema... don't get me wrong.)

:)

I ain't playin' -- I'm gonna look for that Hobo with a Shotgun. Just tell me that it has a happy ending (without spoiling it, of course), and I'll love it.

Well Sam, other than "Skyline" all movies have happy endings. Why would you worry that, "Hobo" wouldn't? (I don't know really, jus' trying to keep your spirits up).

Well in this shot, http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...vN8TsaeMKvE0AHPvqTlDw&ved=0CD8Q9QEwBQ&dur=364 Indeed she does In fact, I even believe I've seen Keira in the same pose and "costume".

However here: http://www.beautyriot.com/celebriti...nnyn-sossamon-short-brunette-hairstyle-pid580 not at all. This image gives off more of a failed clone of Hillary Skank vibe, in the juxtaposition of Cinderella, (Hillary) to her sisty uglers.

(I can't believe I just compared Hillary Swank to Cinderella, just to make a point. I'm such a wh**e).

Anyway here's HS, http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2733935616/nm0005476 proving beyond a doubt, actresses shouldn't make movies while not wearing makeup.

Cowboys and aliens

This one didn't do too well at the Box Office. Why? I don't know. I guess the average movie going public, don't know a good movie when their starring right at it.
The movie was great. Not a single lull from start to finish. Best Iv'e seen in a long time

my favs:

The island

Somehow I let this one slip through the cracks, am a fan of the genre and the reviews look pretty good. Just added it to my Netflix queue and will have a look at it later this week.

Film reviews on BBC site.

The BBC has a podcast of the latest films, reviewed by Mark Kermode, a professional film critic. It has been going for at least 5 years, and even if I don't agree with the review, it can be a good laugh anyway.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/kermode

It's a good 'second opinion' about many of the popular, and not so popular films.
Fair to say, he doesn't rate many of the big budget blockbusters, and almost none in 3D.

Natalie Portman's best acting to date for me was her child role in Leon (good film by the way).

Hobo with a Shotgun is quite over the top, in the vein of Evil Dead. Lots of gruesome violent scenes done in a B movie/70s style.

I also thought a very young Natalie did a good job in Leon (The Professional), agree that it's a good film all the way around.

Hobo with a Shotgun was too much for me.

Redbox has "Electra Luxx", starring Carla Gugino. This has well over a dollars worth of laughs, perhaps two dollars worth, maybe more.

Hey,
I found 'Bronson' an interesting movie (the lead actor was in 'Inception')

Aswell as 'We Own The Night' with Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Pheonix.

Speaking of Carla Gugino, she's also good in Sin City and Watchmen. The apartment scene with Mickey Rourke in Sin City speaks for itself ;)

Just watched the Conan films again. Arnie does like to ham it, but James Earl Jones steals it in barbarian for me.

He received the script for Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back while he was filming Conan...which is interesting i think.
