Wi-Fi adaptor (USB Wireless LAN Card) intermittently picks up mobile (cell phone) hotspots: Solved

Hi,

I am using a mini USB Wi-Fi adaptor to connect my desktop PC to the internet.

I am always able to pick up the signal from the JioFi 3 router (details below).

However, the Wi-Fi adaptor is not able to regularly pick up mobile (cell phone) hotspots; sometimes I can pick up the signal, sometimes not.

The other mobiles (cell phones) can pick up these mobile (cell phone) hotspots, but not my PC (via the USB adaptor).

I have tried both USB Wi-Fi adaptors, and I have tried Disabling/Enabling the USB Wireless LAN Card (in Network Connections).

Would it help to change the USB Wi-Fi adaptor, say for a one with external antenna?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't necessarily have the answer to your question but I do have a suggestion. Is your USB adapter plugged directly into your PC? If so, try connecting it via a 2 or 3 feet USB extension cable. That way you could try moving your USB adapter around (subject to the limits of the cable length) to maybe find better reception.

I was able to solve the problem.

The hotspot I was not able to see was on channel 13.

I looked at the adapter's properties in the Device Manager under the Advanced tab.

There I found that Country Region (2.4GHz) was set at #0 (1-11).

I changed that to #5 (1-14).

Now my PC can see and connect to the Panasonic P101 on channel 13.
