Win 7 startup problem

Occasionally, when booting the PC, right after the windows startup display and before the windows login screen, the hard drive will shut down a blank screen appears. If I restart the same thing happens.
After the forced shut down, and starting up again I have to follow the restore procedure to login.
If, on the other hand, after the forced shut down I start up in safe more, and restart the PC its starts up w/o a problem.
Any ideas why this maybe happening is appreciated.

I have searched the event viewer, but haven't found anything.
The problem is that it might happen once in 10 start ups.

Go to Computer and right-click on the C drive, select Properties, Tools, Check now. Put a check mark in both boxes to set a disk check on the next start up. if the boot drive is an SSD disregard these instructions
