Win2K freezing on boot screen

I've had this problem a couple of times. Win2K gets to boot screen and then freezes. If I boot in safe mode it freezes at MupSys. Now I found by accident that removing a usb plug, ANY usb plug, when the system freezes, will get the programme loading again and no further probs. I haven't installed any new hard or software in months, and I have nothing really to point the finger at.

What I would like to know is whether there is a "fix" for this at all?

Many thanks!

Try and replace it with this one (from my own W2K/SP4)
There are 2 (the same) instances:
\winnt\system32\drivers and
\winnt\servicepackfiles

Your version might be corrupt

Thank you so much, that really is kind of you!

I presume I overwrite the existing versions in both areas.

Much appreciated!

Jo

Right, I have successfully overwritten both entries. Since it was a fairly random prob, I probably won't be able to tell that it has worked until I suddenly realise I haven't had the problem in months, so many many thanks for your help!
