Windows 9 public preview to arrive in late September

You sound like you have never used Windows 7 before. You can attach the start menu to the side of the screen, change icon sizes and add instant shortcuts or menu's. Not to mention the other 5 million ways to do something like that.

I like what I have seen and read so far about Windows 9 and I am officially done bitching about their every move. Like 2000--->XP and Vista--->7, they are taking the best from each idea and making it into one. I think Windows 9 is shaping up to be a good, accommodating and flexible OS.

Amstech this is 2014 people aren't dumb, we arent like microsoft we dont have a box fetish or want to make things hard & cost more because 1. we cant afford it, 2. we want efficiency, 3. we dont want to pay $39.99 or $120+ JUST so we can get something back that M$ took from us...

Its like paying for a mcdonalds burger and then when they hand it too you they announce that burgers aren't gonna have a burger in them but if you want it its gonna cost you a extra $5...

Give microsoft $39.99 for a start menu they took away from you gosh they are listening to their customers...
the $39.99 start menu which is absolutely necessary for you is a much better price tag than the imaginary 'roughly $22,000 cost of updates'.

Classic Shell. It's free.

Imaginary pfft and so your saying if you bought a car and the car maker took the engine off your car and said if you want the engine its gonna cost you £39.99 you would just say "damn that's a great deal I'll pay that"

You gotta be a special person to do that... Also I pirate windows and office no point in giving greedy beggers cash

That's a horrible analogy. A better one would be that Microsoft changed the rear-view mirror. You still have one, it's just faster and prettier.

And you're a thief.

Hopefully Windows 9 will be heavily discounted for those of us who are running Windows 8/8.1. As long as the tiles can be opened in the Desktop I don't care that they're included in the Start Menu. Also, I wonder if this means we will see the release of certain titles on the PC (such as the upcoming Halo collection for the Xbox One and Gears of War 2 and 3) since the console will receive an update that puts in line with Windows?

One can only hope.

That would be the smartest thing that Microsoft could do regarding games. They don't make money off the hardware anyway, so why not make their games available to the millions of Windows users?

And sales of Windows 8 would pick up, too.

(Now, if only Sony could be persuaded ....)

Again, inapt.

The burger's the same, it's just got a different but prettier and faster wrapper.

(And Classic Shell's wrapper is free.)

I like the color to the tiles. But I just wish I could pick the color, it would let you color code your start screen to keep it more organized a d easier to navigate when you zoom out on it. The start menu in threshold looks like it will resolve most of the start menu complaints, I am gonna keep mine in MUI for a start screen.

OblyTile lets you create custom tiles, and it's free.

(Though you can't customize Live Tiles with it, OblyTile has shortcuts for creating new tiles for preexisting programs/apps.)

Unfortunately Sony won't ever make their games available on the PC. The PlayStation 4, along with their other products, is a staple for the company; it's their bread and butter. Making the PlayStation 4's games available on the Windows platform would, for them, be like admitting defeat. The Xbox One's and the Xbox 360's libraries are a better fit for the PC.

Dude... learn to multiquote, you can do that with a single post.

Also, stop trying, people wont budge even if they are given the OS for free they'll still complain about some nonsense that can be either a) fixed b) ignored c) use an alternative, specially some clowns around here.

I think if people got windows for free they wouldn't have room to complain...

It's a little disappointing to see the revert back to the start menu. In my opinion it's too late to bring it back regardless of public outcry, because of the longevity of how long Windows 8 and 8.1 has been released to the public. I'm going to reserve other judgments until I see what other features are included in the operating system. So, I will definitely be installing the public release when it's available.
