hi i have just upgraded my friends pc from windows 98se to xp, but its going very slow and not working as well as it should be. its an old pc, should i just put windows 98 back on.
Windows XP does have more overhead than Windows 98, however this over head translates into better stability and functionality. Check out the OS tweak Guides (techspot.com) before you reinstall 98. Windows XP minimum requirements(microsoft.com) are around 233Mhz, 64Mb RAM. Not to mention that Windows 98 has been out of the Windows Life-Cycle Support Policy(microsoft.com) for 2 years now.
make sure your computer has ample memory. XP is a memory hog. A minimum of 512MB is recommended. Although 256mb will suffice it will run very slow as it has to use a page file.
