Windows xp will not allow canon sureshot software to install

  1. When you attempt to install the software it says windows image acquisition service must be running. When I go into services and attempt to start WIA it gives me the following error: could not start the windows image acquisition (WIA) on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

The last time I can across this the problem was caused by the copy of windows being short on service packs and updates. Suggest you make sure you have everything updated and try again. What version of windows are you running?

    Updates did not work

I loaded all the windows updates including those that were optional and still no luck with the WIA service. Any other ideas..???

Microsoft has fixes for this posted on their knowledge base.
The easiest way to directly access it is to enter
    Error 1053
in a google search, then click on the Microsoft link that pops up.
This error has not come up on any machine for which we install canon camera software.
