winxp not booting

When I turn on my hp laptop the xp logo comes up and than I get a black screen, anyone know the fix?

Can you boot into safe mode?

There could be something wrong with your video card. You may need to reinstall drivers.

Try reseating the card. Check all cables that go to the monitor, are securely in.
Use the windows generic vga drivers to see if the problem is definately related to your drivers
Press F8 during startup and select use vga mode.

If you can get into safe mode, try lowering the refresh rate of your monitor.
