YouTuber prototypes way to use DDR4 memory on DDR5 motherboards

I would be cool if they went for hybrid design. But I think your idea has maybe a bit if an issue with clearance behind the board, like RAM modules don't have as thin design with heatsinks on the sides as most SSDs that don't come with beffy heatsink. So they might need extra big standoffs.
As I (vaguely) understand it, you can't space out the components too widely, running at today's speeds, Since the speed of light (or electricity), starts to figure in with latency issues.

Resistance actually slows down electricity, so the distance between components starts to affect response time.

For your reading pleasure, google, "bucket brigade device".

This is why I wait. Current generation and even the past couple of years releases will suffice well into the DDR5-era based systems. I'm on AMD's X370 chipset, which in hindsight, I should had waited another year. With a few upgrades, I should get decent performance for the next 5, possibly 7 years. Unless, I hit the financial lottery, I probably won't be updating chipsets until DDR6, Lol.

Well you can compromise a bit: iirc I remember that some of the m.2 backside slots were not pci-e 4.0 like the front one telling the user "No you shouldn't put a high powered m.2 on the back, this one is for entry level 'storage' m.2 drives or even sata m.2 drives"

Similarly I think that many buyers understand you basically need to be careful about the case choice when you want to utilize connectivity on the back of a motherboard at which point a proper case with a very generous cutout and even ventilation on the back becomes necessary, for the case of the itx boards for example you're mostly required to be using a case like the NR200 which has open ventilation panel on the backside with full access to it or some of the sandwich layout cases that similarly allow for good clearance and modest ventilation to the backside.

How I would personally resolve it is to try making it 6 slot system, 2 DDR5, which should be plenty due to bigger amount of RAM per stick and 4 DDR4, or maybe even just 2 plus 2. Though either way, it would complicate design and I got feeling the reason why they didn't do it is because it would add to cost, effecting profit margins of everything not in "give ne best, money is not an issue" territory. And selling what is 200USD motherboard for a tier higher price due to dual memory support would make it very niche product, driving price further up to compensate for lower sold volume. Since most people would just pick one, DDR4 or less likely DDR5 and run with it.

Never usually see a 6 slot system but we know they could even go 8 with a 4 ddr4 and 4x ddr5 dimms.

Yes costs would increase a lot but at this point, come on: have you seen the prices of new mobos for intel? They're insane. I know most AIBs will want to shield themselves behind the shortage but truth of the matter is that not having enough volume doesn't actually decreases the cost-per-goods-sold of their proposition so we know that even if they produce and sell very few boards they're making very wide margins with them even considering R&D of a new platform and new ddr5 tech and such.

That's the only part of the argument I wouldn't concede: at least for the high end products which is what we're talking about they certainly can afford to take a lot more risks. In fact, they often do take a lot of risks but it's but stupid stuff that isn't functional like RGB controllers and such instead of having robust, functional new features we rarely see nowadays but would have been nice like both ddr4 and ddr5 dimms

You know it occurs to me, if the motherboard already has a ddr4 controller on board to make this even plausible...
The memory controller is in the CPU, not the motherboard. The motherboard's role related to memory is signal integrity: tracks that will handle the bus frequency to avoid crosstalk and line saturation.

I still don't understand why people has the need to pay a high premium at the very beginning to just have minimal advantages.

Facts: DDR5 is very expensive ATM; why not wait or invest on a DDR5 + DDR4 Motherboard that allows a good compromise?

Won't the adapters physically interfere with the cpu cooler? I think it would be easier to get a DDR4 board, but it's always nice to have an alternative.
In the past I had some sort of hybrid p35 board with 4 DDR2 and 2 DDR3 slots (non mixable), just don't know if that sort of solution is still feasible with alder lake.

Hey Daniel Sims, there is no so call Taipei Youtuber, which refers to "Chinese Taipei", please use Taiwan or Taiwanese.

This is exactly the same thing people were saying (probably including you) when DDR4 first came out and it wasn't "as good" as DDR3 at the time. You can't compare early samples and first generation sticks of memory to an earlier version that's been around for several years and has had time to mature. Also, not EVERYTHING revolves around gaming.
I dont game, but gaming seems to drive this need for speed, the rest of pc useage is ok with even DDR3!!

I wouldn't recommend a compromised DDR4+DDR5 board, nor would I suggest manufacturers make them either. Seems redundant and adds unneeded complexity. DDR4 based boards are plenty fast enough and those who had upgraded during that era are likely set for the time being. However, if you're on a DDR3 based system, then skipping DDR4 based systems makes tons of sense. Even later DDR4 boards still will have tons of value for now. It's proven and less of a headache. Just me though.

Gigabyte just needs to get their head out of their *** and make a z690 chipset bored that actually works how it's supposed to with high-speed ddr4 so that people won't be dreaming up **** like this because it's ludicrous that gigabyte has not put out one board with one single bios update that addresses perfectly the problems without creating a whole litany of others and all the other boards are sold out and that's why people are having to do things like this. The ddr5 boards cost half as much I'm sick of the scalper businesses and the price gouging that's the real problem here that needs to be addressed! There's no actual chip shortage there's just government *******s manipulating us so they can get large amounts of money before whatever the hell they're trying to hide that is coming up in the near future that they're trying to get total control of the world's population for which I'm guessing is a reset since agenda 2030 wants us to own nothing rent everything and says that we will like it and I say screw them in why is it that all the things that aren't in high demand having no problems with chips and all the major corporations in America are the only ones claiming that whereas you can buy all the chips you want from China or Taiwan without a problem or a limitation and it's only American vehicles that have the chip shortage as far as they go so I called bullshit and it's all price gouging and criminal corporatism at its finest or should I say communism because that's what America's capitalism has turned into over the years and people from Soviet Union even say that this is more communist than where they lived when they lived there.
