The Nintendo DS will use its built in headset port to provide voice-over-IP chat capabilities via wireless 802.11b networking, it was revealed yesterday in a TNI Securities Electronic Entertainment Industry Update. The headset will allow gamers to use the DS as a phone handset enabling free phone calls over wireless network hotspots. So, a 2004 release of the DS still looks likely. Its hoped that inclusion of this technology will help drive adoption among a young target audience.
