Microsoft are apparently in the process of starting a scheme whereby users who have erroneously bought counterfeit copies of Windows XP will be able to trade in their bogus XP for the real thing. Any user who has suspicions that they are using counterfeit software can visit this Microsoft site in order to take action.

"This is a great opportunity for users to confirm the authenticity of Windows XP software while helping gather vital information about illegal traders."

Of course, to take advantage of this programme, you will have to return your bogus material supplied with the OS (disks, manual, etc) and write a witness statement.
