Sony promises to be the first company to ship a dual-layer DVD+R that can write at 8x speeds. The new DRU-810A, an internal drive, uses an Ultra DMA Mode 2 ATAPI interface and does 8x DVD+R DL, as well as DVD+R DL 4x, DVD+RW discs at 8x and DVD±R at 16x and DVD-RW at 6x. The often style conscious Sony has also seen fit to provide silver and black bezels, so that the drive can be matched to differing colours of case, showing awareness of the penchant in recently years for non-beige cases. Nero Software Suite is also included. The price of the package is expected to be around €70 (£48/$88).
